JUST IN. Two cases of another more contagious subvariant of Omicron called BA.5 have been detected in the Philippines, DOH says.

The DOH says the two cases were from the same household in Region III. They have unknown exposure to a BA.5 case. They had no travel history.

Both experienced mild symptoms of the disease and have been tagged as recovered.

BREAKING. Philippines detects its first case of Omicron BA.4, which has been classified as a “variant of concern” by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The case is a Filipino citizen who arrived from the Middle East last May 4. He was asymptomatic.
