GT First Year Semester Abroad
We’re FYSA, GT’s study-abroad program designed for incoming first-year students, based at both GTL in Metz, France and Oxford University in Oxford, England.
Follow our adventures!
A very warm welcome back to both of our FYSA cohorts! We missed you guys!! Good luck this semester! 🐝
We’d like to extend a warm welcome back to all of our students! We wish you the best of luck as you continue your college journey and hope you have a wonderful semester!
Congratulations Early Action!!! Welcome to Tech!
Hi guys! My name is Emma Warren, and I am a first year CS major from Athens, GA. I was a part of the FYSA@Oxford cohort, and after everyone flew home on October 28, I started solo travel around Europe. I had such a blast exploring Oxford and several countries with my friends during my first semester, but I have loved traveling solo so far. I am so excited to share my adventures in Switzerland over the next two days and answer any questions you may have about the opportunity to solo travel after FYSA!
I’m Anna Grace and I’m from ATL (ITP). I’m a business major and have been loving a unique Tech experience outside of Atlanta!

We’re excited to take y’all along with us on our last day before we head back to Metz for classes. Please dm us with any questions!

Hi everyone!! My name is Emma Hardin, and I am from Columbus, GA! I am a first year biology major, switching to biomedical engineering soon. My friends and I will be spending the next 3 days in Florence and Rome, Italy, and I am so excited to show you the incredible sites and experiences that are possible because of this program :)
Hi everyone! My name is Noah Hur, and I am a first year soon-to-be mechanical engineer major from Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. It has been about halfway through the semester, and let me tell you, it's been one exciting adventure after another. Every weekend has been a chance to explore a new city in Europe or learn more about the city of Metz.
Hello! My name is Hanmo Zhang and I’m a first year computer science major from Millburn, New Jersey. Like Noah said — FYSA is unlike anything we’ve done before, and we can’t wait to show you a glimpse of it.
We'll be doing a joint takeover of the FYSA Instagram today, and we’re very excited to show you the vibrant city of Amsterdam during our Fall break trip!
“It’s hard to describe the ending to something like this.
When talking to everyone about leaving, it seemed none of us really knew how to feel. We all missed home, sure. It’s been 6 weeks of hotel hopping and 4,093 miles of bus riding.
But as we packed up the bus for the last time, it didn’t feel like it was supposed to be over.
It felt like Dr. Lux was just about to send a GroupMe message telling all of us the schedule for tomorrow, and we would be in a new city the next morning with Dr. U and Dr. Wilkins telling us things we should go see.
But instead, we said goodbye today for the next 2 months.
We’ve taken so many bus naps. Been to a million museums. Had so many of those “Once in a lifetime” experiences. Heard so many Berlin Humor jokes from Heike (our amazing tour guide). We’ve been to the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, and Italy.
The best moments weren’t the ones you would expect. My favorite things weren’t the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, or Big Ben. It was the boat ride over to Venice, the playground we found in Prague, and the music festival in Reading.
Everyone tells you this will be such a transformative experience, but you don’t really believe them until it’s over.
I believe them now.”

Fall Break - Belgium! Today our students got an incredible opportunity to take a look inside the Headquarters of Building for the European External Action Service during their time in Brussels.
Hi everyone! Welcome to the FYSA Lyon-Turin fall break trip takeover! My name is AJ Bohanon, from Atlanta and I’m an industrial engineering major. I’m super excited to be showing y’all what we’re doing and where we are visiting during our FYSA cohort fall break trip!
Hi guys!! My name is Molly Butler, and I’m from Clarkesville, GA! I’m a literature, media, and communications major and a part of the FYSA@Oxford program this year! I’m so glad to be able to study and travel throughout Europe my first semester at tech! I’m excited to show you what life on the road is like for the next couple of days :)
FYSA photo dump 🚮 safe ✅ to say 🗣 everyone found 🔍 something to do in Paris 🇫🇷. I loved 🫶 taking you 🫵 along with us! Au revoir - .lydiaaa
Thanks for these awesome photos of England!
As our Oxford students prepare for their upcoming finals, we know they eagerly await the start of their travel portion.
We'd also like to announce that one of our Oxford students, .is.alive will be doing a takeover this weekend while she's in London! Make sure to stay tuned to ask all your FYSA questions!

A couple of our week 1 favorite photos from the Oxford cohort!
Each week we plan to showcase some of the students photos from their time at Oxford, and once GTL classes begin, in France!
Wishing safe travels to our students as they depart for Oxford, England today!
Safe travels and best of luck as you enter the fall semester!
Our students were in HIGH spirits today as they walked through the many different exhibits alongside our docents today. From modern sculptures to French portraits and sculptures, the High Museum of Art boasts and incredible collection of diverse pieces and styles across a variety of mediums. Our docents gave an absolutely phenomenal tour to our students today, and we’re so glad everyone had such a wonderful time.
Every Day is Earth Day if you’re a Yellow Jacket!
Today, our students partnered with .walks to pick up trash in downtown Atlanta. As members of the Atlanta community, we feel it is important to do our part to give back to the city in any way we can. Volunteer work is a great way to do exactly that. Through the helping hands of people like our wonderful students, we can usher Atlanta forwards into a cleaner and more sustainable future!
Yesterday at the Atlanta United soccer game our students got to see the club face off with rival Orlando City.
After a tough match and riveting final 15 minutes, the match ended in a draw (but we think were the real winners)
Happy Bastille Day!
We had the honor of listening to esteemed guest Dr. Rami Abi-Akl, the Science and Technology Attaché from the Atlanta French Consulate ().
Our students learned some fascinating insight into the French startup scene at Station F!

Happy Earth Day, everybody! It's a beautiful planet, especially when seen from a zip-line over the Vosges. Let's take good care of it.
