Annual Union College Valentine Concert ❣️ This coming Tuesday, February 13th at 8:00 pm in the beautiful Conway Boatman Chapel ❣️

The Union Regional Chorus will not meet for rehearsal tomorrow evening, Tuesday, January 16th! I rarely cancel rehearsal, but believe it is necessary. The college has also canceled classes for tomorrow.

If you are a current member, please know I believe (based on our first rehearsal last week) that we will be able to master the Gershwin in Love medley. Come prepared to work hard next week, but we can do it.

If you are interested in singing with us, or haven't sung with us in a while, please come and join us next Tuesday!! :)

Additionally. help me spread the word by sharing the post!! I did send an email but I received some "bounce backs" so shoot a message to anyone who comes to mind -- especially those who live far from Bville (just to make sure they get the word).

I am euphoric about Regional Chorus rehearsal tonight! There was such a GREAT group of singers who turned out for our first rehearsal. I am touched by their presence ❣️

Welcome to CHRISTMAS IN JULY!

I am planning the Christmas Festival Concert (Friday, December 1st) and want your input.

This year we will have AN OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS: THE CAROLS WE LOVE

I need to order the music next month so jump in and add your favorite carols to the list of selections I will be choosing from.

Please find below a list of carols to “whet your appetite.”

In the comments below list the number of any carol from above that you love AND list two additional carols you love (just two!!).

If you choose the same numbers or your list of two carols duplicates other’s choices, great!

Regional Chorus rehearsal this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel!!

We will begin work on the fourth movement of Brahms' Requiem. It is a BEATUTIFUL chorus! Brahms' Requiem is not a liturgical requiem but instead the text offers hope and comfort for those left behind after a loved one has passed.

"How lovely are Thy dwellings, O Lord of Hosts. For my soul desireth and longeth for the courts of the Lord; my soul and body sing with joy unto the living God. O blessed [are] they who in Thy house are dwelling: they praise Thy name evermore."

Music is provided -- just bring yourself and a pencil 🙂

Union's three choral ensembles continue the decades long tradition of musical excellence. In addition to performing at college functions and area schools and churches, we present three major performances each academic year for the campus, Barbourville, and surrounding communities. We look forward to seeing you at our annual concerts!

It is August 1st and Union will soon begin the 2022 Fall Semester. The Choral Program's choirs will begin rehearsals on the following days and times:

Union Singers: Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00-1:50 beginning Wednesday, August 24th

Union Harmony: Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00-3:50 beginning August 24th

Union College Regional Chorus: Tuesdays 7:00-8:30 pm beginning September 6th

The Union Singers and the Regional Chorus will meet in Conway Boatman Chapel. Union Harmony will meet in room 31 of the Fine Arts Building.

Our first major performance will be the Christmas Festival Concert the first weekend in December.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our first rehearsal as we unite our voices in the art of choral music!

Regional Chorus Members: Mark you calendar! We will begin RC Fall rehearsals on Tuesday, September 6 (day after Labor Day). I will send reminders/invitations/more information as time approaches, but I have had 3 people in the last 4 days inquire about RC (which makes me happy) so I thought I would make an announcement now so you can put it on your calendar! Also, please help me spread the word. I will also be posting this on the Union Choral Program FB Page. Can't wait to see you all!! Until then . . . Happy Summer!

Hi My Friends!

I hope everyone is doing well! It is an understatement to say how much I have missed you and making music with you!

I have come to the very difficult decision not to reboot the Regional Chorus this spring, but instead begin anew in the Fall! (I imagine many of you came to this conclusion on your own, but I wanted to make it official, if you will, and speak to you from my heart).

Although Union’s mask policy has very recently been updated (since the numbers are falling) we are still under a college mandate to wear masks in classes/rehearsals. This may or may not change by the end of the school year, I have no way of knowing. Nevertheless, it is currently our policy. The Union Singers and Harmony are for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic meeting face to face and began rehearsing in the chapel with masks on, in February. Although I am so thankful to be making music again, it is slow going with masks on (plus I am rebuilding the program since so many veterans graduated over the last 2+ years).

My concern for the Regional Chorus, should we have tried to begin rehearsals again this month, is that there may be a degree of understandable frustration on your part as I don’t think we would have sufficient time to prepare pieces for the spring concert to our usual standards. As I said earlier, music making occurs at a much slower pace with masks.

So, fall will be the best time to “reboot” the Regional Chorus. I can’t wait to see you all and start making music again!!

After very careful consideration, the Regional Chorus will be on hiatus until further notice. I miss meeting with you more than I can say, but look forward to the time when we can sing together again.

The Decades Long Tradition Continues . . .

REGIONAL CHORUS begins this Tuesday, January 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the rehearsal room of the Fine Arts Building! As usual, we only have five rehearsals until the Valentine concert!! It is a mad dash, but a fun one! I look forward to seeing all RC singers Tuesday night!

Today the Union Singers and Union Harmony sang a few selections (from our upcoming Christmas Festival Concert) in the Atrium of Sharp Academic Center. It's a long-standing tradition! It's a fairly informal event… whoever happens to be in the building, walking through the building, or steps over to hear them sing comprises our audience. You can't see all the singers, but I love how these pictures show them offering their best in this beautiful setting. Thank you Christie Connally for the pictures. Make plans now to attend the Christmas Festival Concert this Saturday, December 7th at 8:00 PM in Conway Boatman Chapel.

RC members: Our final weekly rehearsal, before dress rehearsal on Friday, is tonight! We are doing great, but tonight is an important rehearsal! See you at 7:30!
