2023 Parliament of the World's Religions - Recap (sort of) 14/09/2023

It's been over a month... Just a quick recap!

2023 Parliament of the World's Religions - Recap (sort of) It has been a month since the convening of PoWR 2023, and I am still processing all that I learned from that experience. Although I have attended previous conventions, this had been the first in-person gathering since COVID, and one which I was delighted to introduce my good friend Pastor Andy Behre...

If anyone wonders what a wholesome Heathen community is like, look no further than the outpouring of love, bittersweet recollection, and even memorable mourning at the loss of Camp Netimus by the Northeast Heathen Community.

Camp Netimus had been the home of East Coast Thing for decades, and had become a haven and inspiration for Heathen families, whose children played in its forests and worshipped at its Vé-stead.

Join me in wishing the NEHC community and the administrative team of ECT the warmest and best.
Though it will never be quite like Netimus, may they find a new and exciting place to call home.

Hail the Community!

It’s !

With compassion let us lead ourselves into greater understanding of each other.

Whether we worship a singular deity, hail many, or honor none; it is in our desire for human flourishing and betterment that govern our short lives and those of our kin.

Long may it serve as a reminder that despite our unique and divergent paths, we are all human; sharing this beautifully created and sometimes chaotic universe.

What is aquamation? The green alternative to cremation chosen by Desmond Tutu 02/01/2022

Really happy to see this, as I’m sure The Order of the Good Death and others are too.

Here’s hoping that his final request inspires others toward and sustainable end of life solutions.

What is aquamation? The green alternative to cremation chosen by Desmond Tutu Archbishop Desmond Tutu, long a champion of environmental causes, asked to be aquamated -- a more eco-friendly process of breaking down the body than traditional cremation.

Glad Yule!

The wheel has turned!

At the dawn of the new year, may the life-giving rays of Sunna illuminate any moments of darkness or doubt, may she thaw any obstacle in your path.

Hail Sunna!

Winter Solstice Service 20/12/2021

I am truly thankful to have found such a welcoming community as that of the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and am looking forward to continuous work with such warm folks!

Deeply thankful to Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy for the opportunity to lead this Winter Solstice service in the UU tradition.

Though I am not much of a singer, I mustered the courage to do so by the pride and joy of sharing what I have learned and cultivated with the North River Kindred in NYC.

Special thanks to Will Thomas Rowan and Trey Wentworth; for sharing their beautiful "Blessing for a Feast" song, used in many a Heathen gathering!

“Vi tänder det andra ljuset i vänt
Och låter det i urrunans tecken brinna
Med allting som kommer och allting som hänt
Må det om tidernas gång åminna”

“In the second of Sunwait we light
The candle of Uruz so bright
With all that has passed and ahead of us lies
May the passing of time in it rise!”

So it begins!

A new and exciting tradition of counting down each Thursday until Yule arose several years ago.

This evening marking the First Night!

“Ví tänder det första ljuset í vänt
och låter det í färunans tecken brínna
Tills solens drottníng på nytt återvänt
må det om hennes prakt åmínna”

“In the first of Sunwait we light
The candle of Fehu so bright
Until the return of the Queen of the Skies
May the beauty and splendor in it rise”

It has been an honor and an amazing experience to once again speak and be a part of Parliament of the World's Religions.

My most sincere thanks to my friend and collegue Pastor Andy Behrendt of Trinity Lutheran Church of Waupaca, WI.
Your hospitality, openness, and hard work allowed us to present an excellent opportunity to bring both our faiths together toward reconciliation and mutual understanding.

Phyllis Curott, you rallied many to submit programs to Parliament and have become a symbol to many Pagans (myself included) to either begin or continue the work of interfaith engagement as representatives of our fragile and often misunderstood faith.
My deepest thanks for pushing me to submit and continue the work!

And to all whom I have had the chance to meet this year virtually, I hope to meet you all again, and gain new friendships at the next Parliament in 2023... IN-PERSON in CHICAGO!!!

Hail the interfaith movement!
Hail the community!
Hail to compassion!
Hail to the betterment of the world!

Getting ready for morning prayer service as part of Parliament of the World's Religions hosted by Sikh Youth Alliance of North America (SYANA) and the Guru Angad Institute of Sikh Studies.

My face is still the “waking up kind”, but I am very excited to witness this, and my wife did her best to wrap me accordingly and make me 😎👍🏻

The Pagan and Heathen community lost one of their influential and inspiring lights.

Andrea Meyer.
Best known for her music projects Hagalaz Runedance and Nebelhexë, was one of several victims murdered in Kongsberg, Norway this past week.

Through her enchanting music, Andrea reached many people who often cite her talent as inspiration for deeper involvement in and spiritual connections to Paganism and Heathen faith tradition.

Hail the Traveler!
Hail Andrea Meyer!

As pertinent this year as the last.

And to quote the oft-sung feasting song of a beloved kindred:

“Hail to the Earth, she giveth to all.
Hail to the Álfar, the crops growing tall.
Hail to the land-wights, the harvest in fall.
Food on the table, and song in the hall!”

Happy Hláfmæst!
Merry Lammas!

The Great Wheel has turned full!

It is around this time that Heathens observe the fullness of the year and we end it as it started...in darkness.

Yet hope is kindled throughout the deep murk of night as we light candles at sundown for the goddess Sunna’s final light. Vigil is then kept throughout the night when at dawn we welcome her back in joyous celebration.

Good Yule & Blessed Winter Solstice!
May the dawn of the new year bring you clarity, joy, health, and compassion.

Hail Sunna!
Hail the Community!
