I am very happy to share my latest DRAWING….

“The Pink Lady”, 12” x 16” colored pencil.

If you live in the greater SAN DIEGO area or have visited there, you are most likely familiar with the in La Jolla.

The La Valencia Hotel is a historic hotel, which opened in 1926, providing COASTAL HOSPITALITY at its finest. I’ve been fortunate to have been a guest there multiple times. The rooms, views, dining venues, and staff are all WORLD CLASS.

The inspiration for this drawing came from a photo I saw. I loved the angle and that the hotel is framed by two PALM TREES.

Its unmistakable Mediterranean-style PINK exterior earned it the nickname “The Pink Lady”.

It’s a special place and I look forward to my next visit.

SHARE with a friend who knows the La Valencia!

Who says I can’t share a winter drawing on June?!?!

You may want to start with the last picture and scroll to the left.

This drawing is from a reference photo I took while cross country trying to skiing.

There is more color in it than you would think. I used close to 40 different pencils for this.

If you live in Arizona like me, tho probably looks good after the past week. In other parts of the country you are probably saying the nice week just got here!

Either way, does this look like a peaceful setting?

Here are some framing ideas ⬇️

After you purchase a piece of art, selecting a frame and matte combination is very important. This can really make the art pop!

I chose four options for this one. I kept it simple using black frame for each option. A dark gray would also work given the colors in the drawing.

For the matte choices I used white, pale gray, pale blue, and pale green. All of these are colors used in the drawing.

The matte can pull colors out of the drawing the viewer wants to highlight.

Can you see the difference on each one?

What are your thoughts?

Someone saw my drawing of the Airstream camper I drew earlier this year. They asked if I could draw their camper with a lot of trees.

I didn’t have a reference photo other than a picture of the camper. I created the scene by looking at other photos. It was very enjoyable with so many different aspects coming together.

My client received it yesterday and is absolutely thrilled. That makes me very happy to know I created what they wanted! 🙏🏻

My version of The Lost Kitchen from a reference photo taken at the beginning of summer in 2022.

I’m sure their 2023 season is winding down now.

It’s a very peaceful place!

Another look at my recently completed drawing “Pemaquid at Sunrise”.

This took many hours to complete. I used 68 different colors to blend and layer to achieve this.

I learned a lot from it and really enjoy the process

Finally finished this drawing! The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse was in the group of three that received the most votes for which to start first. It took many hours due to the many colors used. It was a lot of blending. This was challenging! I wanted to find something different that some of my other drawing with a bright blue sky. Drawing a sunrise is very different!

The Lost Kitchen. I added a final couple things to compete the drawing.

Can you tell what they were?

My first Mother’s Day, not being able to call her and wish her a happy one. This is just one of her pieces that I love. The lighting wasn’t the best but you can still see what a brilliant water color artist she was. I wish I could have shared more time with her talking about art. I promised I would continue what I started.

Great way to start the day! Let the ideas flow!

Trying different methods of layering color on black paper, not so much on drawing the perfect butterfly.

Which do you like best?

Missed connection and long layover Monday. Definitely had caffeine on my mind. Felt like drawing but only had a lined pad and $.99 mechanical pencil.

I haven’t been in this place in years. I remember as a kid going here to buy baseball cards. I’d keep the gum in a bag and chew it playing Wiffle ball in the backyard.
