He wanted to sail the world, and she went along with him for the ride.
High school sweethearts, she married her sailor.

The Mariner’s Wife is my mom. The Mariner, a Naval Officer, my dad.
The coastal life was ingrained in me as a child. As a kid, we had a brass door knocker in the shape of an anchor. Nautical knots and portholes, sounding maps, and photographs of submarines adorned our walls.
After tours that would take him away for several months at a time, my mom, my sister, and I would count down the “sleeps'' until daddy came home from sea. Then finally, the day would come.
There was nothing more impressive than watching his submarine return to port with Daddy, our sailor, and the rest of the crew in their dress whites “manning the rails” for all of us to see.
Emotions were high, and the pageantry of this very exciting traditional Navy ritual of “the homecoming” are some of the warmest memories I have of my childhood. My mom, my sister and I dressed up in matching floor length dresses, anxiously awaiting the return of our sailor.
And then (always too soon), “Anchors Aweigh” would come around again, returning our sailor to the sea.
“The Mariner’s Wife” is an identity, a lifestyle, and a way of being.
The brotherhood that accompanies military life and life at sea is the reality of the sailor.
The sisterhood of wives on land waiting for their sailors to return are her family. Her navy wives understand her the best, and step in to help each other. Away from their extended families, they share holidays together. They look out for each other, they lift each other up, they support each other in times of struggle. They share carpool duties, bond over coffee, and with kids in tote, show up at the front door with a bottle of wine when the pressure of the separation is too much to bear.
They are used to letting go, with the inevitable change of duty orders on the horizon. They live life to the fullest, ready to pivot with a new plan at any moment.
She has redefined her idea of a partnership, a tough lesson that is difficult for outsiders to understand...that her partner has a job that they love and that also takes them away from her.
The Mariner’s wife has direct accomplishments of her own.. a portable career that she takes with her wherever they land, a skill, a hobby, an education. The Mariner’s wife has a divine spark… a passion in her heart.
As the at-home partner, the Mariner’s Wife holds the center of the family while the sailor is gone, and then lets the sailor come back to his own place in the family. He is the sun, and she is gravity.
She doesn’t get caught up in scarcity and lack, and protects herself from such discussions among certain navy wives.
Instead, she sees abundance everywhere she looks.
Life as the mariner’s wife isn’t easy, but she manages her emotions. A model to her family, she processes her emotions, doesn’t hide from tough conversations with her kids, and moves through her emotions with grace and fortitude.
The Mariner’s wife is strong.
She’s centered.
She’s optimistic.
She’s a dreamer.

The Mariner’s Wife is my mom, and the Mariner my dad.
I have deep love and appreciation for them, and immense gratitude and pride for the values they instilled in me.
I’ve seen the sacrifices my parents made and the commitment that each of them had to each other, and to our family.
My mom is the representation of style, class and grace, and it is in her honor that I create a business that speaks to the heart of all women like her who put their family first, and who, like gravity, pulls her family toward her.
She is who I strive to be, and “The Mariner’s Wife” gift shop will be filled with items created for her, for me, and for all who appreciate the mission and vision of our company.
“The Mariner’s Wife” provides products that directly align with this identity.
We welcome all who are touched by the vision… the mariner’s wife, the mariner, and anyone who identifies with or appreciates the lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, celebrations and special moments along her journey.
