Kira Rudjen - Artist
Kira Rudjen is an artist working with soft pastel exploring softness through her figurative works.
I’m Kira Rudjen and I’m so glad you’re here, I am an artist living in the NYC area that loves color, art history, bic pen, watercolor, dismantling ableism, coffee, snacks, and a good plant haul. My work has been described as a juxtaposition between vibrant expressionism and realism - I love to bounce between subject matter and explore how I can share what I see with my paintbrushes and pens.
Another reference photo reveal!
Last year I took some time to walk through my process for one of my closest friends, speaking about how I work by filming an entire tutorial for this baby self portrait.
I haven't been sure what I want to do with this little artwork so she floats around my studio a lot, sometimes on the skull wall sometimes in my pastels box. Moving it today I realized I never shared it here on the feed!
So here's a cutie from October, on newsprint.
Did you see the reel I did last week with all the hand references!? I almost never share the photos I work from but you guys were so sweet about it so I'll make more reveals in the future 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Thats a wrap 💗
2024 feels like a whole new thing now, and I'm looking forward to pursuing more personal works to share here. Here's to all of you, thanks for the love and support and kindness - you're all such MVPs.
🥳🩷💗‼️
This is a small selection of the landscapes I'm showing with Downtown Manhattan, KS in my solo show "Let Me Show You Something", they are:
"There is a Mossy Log in Vermont"
"Garden of the Gods"
"Wait You Should See This"
"When We Take A Walk, I Look For This Spot - or James River Meets The Sky Says Hi"
They're all moments I've captured when hiking (or just walking) around with my husband, when I go places I tend to take a bazillion photos because everything can be so beautiful and I don't want to forget it. Taking the time to put those moments on paper is something I feel very honored and happy to do. I love my work and I love making it.
I have a closing reception this coming Friday at Flight Crew Coffee where I'll be hosting a talk/QA about my work and celebrating the show - it's at 5 pm. Hope to see you there!
I'm going to need more wall space.

Yesterdays quickie skellybud #2 for 2024 and I love her and idk man I'm all lovey these days.
What a cutie.
these last few days, the red rocks of Garden of the Gods in Colorado - and what a lovely place! I think I'm just over halfway on this one, come back to see the finished piece soon!
this window is one of my (many) favorite parts of the house, and I'm enjoying putting this autumnal moment on paper very very much.
I posted a little of the process in a reel yesterday 🧡💛

I am almost certain this is finished.
Is anything ever finished?
I think this might could be about finished.
This was my exhibiting buddy, what BIG GREAT WORK!
🥰🩵🫧 it was the most fun
Check this out!
With getting ready for my upcoming solo show and my event tonight I've been working constantly so I haven't shared this little cutie buddy here yet but heeeeeeres my Littlest Self Portrait of the falltimes complete with shirt.
It's the busiest grooviest season for me rn and I'm glad you're here to see it, and I hope you're doing okay all things considering.
Last night's study, we got these lovely glasses as a housewarming gift to ourselves before moving and I've always thought they were the prettiest thing. Also quite pleased with these ice cubes, tbh 💙🫧🩷
One of my favorite problem compositions, back again. When I got this Teapot I tried to show my in laws on video call how iridescent it was but it just looked like clear glass and it was so frustrating because when the light hits it just right its like a Jareth bubble and it's the prettiest.

It's a Sunday Quickie bb 💋
I think I'm in a Pink Mood these days!
Hand/fabric study on newsprint cause I love it, and a special mention goes to my hand and inspo homie cause she *gets* it.
but really on the table (for now)
Artist as in weaver as in Emily as in I have beautiful friends and I am swamped in projects and ideas and none of these (all of these) things are related.
I think I crossed the 2/3 mark on this one, but it needs some time sitting and then I'll come back to it and balance it all out. ❤️
Come back for the finished piece later!
This is done and the whole house is joyful about it.
(Soft pastel on canson)
Specifically my husband and also this chair and also me.
I am working on combining the way I work with line in pen alongside the way I work with pastel and I think it really showed up in this piece. Now to bring that same energy to portrait work, while keeping them Portraity.
A good pursuit.
BYE.
Watercolor and ink - I'm glad to set this down and tuck the paints away for a few days sheesh.
and almost done! When we went to Colorado, I took over 800 pictures. Putting down the way I felt about what I was seeing on top of all them mountaaaains floating in the sky has been lovely.
Check back for the finished piece in a few days!
REMINDER
YOUVE GOT THIS

Loved loved loved this complex one. The metal parts, the coverall folds, braids. Big big big fan of this whole thing.
You'll be able to see this one at my upcoming solo show this winter held in Manhattan Kansas, I'll give you the dates when I've got them 🩷
Reference from fellow artist friend over and
Before my birthday this year, we went on a family trip with our homie Amy and saw some of the prettiest places ever. This was one of those places.
Liv! With their cat! And then if you swipe, it's their favorite NYC meal that I painted a few years ago. That's twice I've done denim for Liv and been unsure both times.
Right.
Love this.
Okay the end.
Something different, finished this study last week and the board I was working on was real gouged and messy, which made creating wood texture for the paneling easy but made everything else more uphill.
Was fun though.

today is a landscape study I started on a live the other day, working towards a client's piece amongst what feels like 400 other things and its really so nice to come back to these.
