These pictures were taken before the retreat center was built. Near the Asura cave, there were a few small huts. There was a complete lack of basic infrastructures including roads, water, and power grids due to which it was difficult to go on retreats or engage in any kind of Dharma practice back then.
This picture dates back to 1970. Years before to the building of Guru Drubney Pema Hosel Ling at Asura Cave, Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and H.E. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche frequently visited this sacred area to plan the construction of this retreat center.
"It is an auspicious day, an auspicious place, and an auspicious puja!" - H.E. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche.
On Guru Rinpoche day (August 7th), Rinpoche, monks, and almost a thousand devotees performed the Trinley Nyingpo Puja and chanted aspiration and dedication prayers at Asura Cave.
The Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairperson, and other Dakshinakali Municipality officials attended today's ceremony. Before the puja began, Rinpoche bestowed teachings and shared some memories of his mother, Mayum Kunsang Dechen, related to Asura Cave and its history. Rinpoche also introduced Shenphen to everyone and the guests.
Rinpoche is happy that everyone believed the path he showed, trusted him, learned the Sambhota Script, and practiced Ngöndro (preliminary practice). Hundreds of his students have accumulated great merit by practicing Ngöndro, and many more are in the process of doing so. Now, Rinpoche believes he also will organize retreats for lay practitioners.
Everyone prayed with Rinpoche that with the accumulated merit, wars, pandemics, and poverty would end, everyone would cultivate compassion, interest, and faith in Dharma and ultimately attain enlightenment.
