Mabu-hi! Enthusiastic makers that enjoy creating perfectly imperfect things.
We celebrate our anniversaries with unique gifts and activities. For our first year, we embraced the tradition of gifting paper and made origami. In the second year, it was cotton gifts so we spent the day doing some cross-stitching. For our third year, which was leather gifts, I crafted a pair of suspenders for Anthony, reflecting his distinctive style. With only a day to complete the project, the result was rough and industrial, but it suited his aesthetic perfectly.
I designed the suspenders with two different attachments, allowing Anthony to choose the best clips for his pants. He can switch between alligator clips and trigger snaps, giving him the option to mix and match. For instance, he can use alligator clips at the back and trigger snaps at the front, or vice versa
For our third wedding anniversary, traditionally celebrated with leather gifts, we decided to challenge ourselves: we each had just one day to create a meaningful leather gift for each other. This was Nicole's gift. Can you guess what it is?
Anthony and I love spending time with our friends and family, sharing snacks or meals together. Lately, we've developed a fondness for assembling charcuterie boards. Initially, we used our regular cutting board, but naturally, we wanted something uniquely ours. So, we designed a simple yet fun charcuterie board.
If you'd like to personalize our design, we can add custom engraving to make it even more special.
Our very first restoration project. We can’t not have a pun on it.
Amidst my first trimester, I took on the role of my grandma's wedding planner. I managed almost everything, including the souvenir to remember the beautiful celebration - gold and blue pens with a golf club clip symbolizing the moment they first met and the hobby they both enjoy.
In 2020, during a visit to Rusty Nail, a timber recyclers in Longburn, I stumbled upon a captivating Rimu panel with an intriguing pattern. Inspired by this discovery and armed with resin epoxy supplies, we embarked on an unplanned project, allowing our creativity to guide us. Three years later, what started as a spontaneous endeavor transformed into a beautiful lap table, highlighting the remarkable journey from a chance encounter with wood to a cherished creation.
We enjoy crafting from scratch but wanted to reduce waste by renovating secondhand items into beautiful gifts. Also, we thought that it would be a fun project. With Christmas nearing, we opted to make personalized presents. While scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, I found an affordable Simply Rimu wine rack, perfect for my Grandma and her husband. Although it was a little scratched and definitely had some years of usage under its belt with a little bit of sanding, etching, and refinish it is as good as new.
And also just to add a little bit more detail we turned a cork screw/wine stopper as well to accompany the wine rack.
For our wedding, we aimed to personalize every detail to reflect our passions. Inspired by our love for board games, we crafted our own Giant Jenga set from scratch, ensuring it matched our style and preferences perfectly.
Crafting a durable yet elegant sign for my sister in laws' parent's ' Airbnb was incredibly fun and challenging. We worked together with them to refine their vision and make it into reality. Anthony's meticulous research ensured longevity, resulting in a striking symbol of their hospitality venture.
Inspired by a whimsical questionnaire, we embarked on a journey to perfect the humble cutting board. Dissatisfied with available options, we crafted our own from durable bamboo, meticulously cutting, chamfering, and sanding to create a board that's as stylish as it is resilient. Complete with our laser-etched logo and treated with multiple layers of food-safe linseed oil, our creation now holds pride of place on our kitchen counter—a testament to craftsmanship and functionality.
Shoutout to .mcgrath for baking some yummy breads.
