TOOTH DECAY EDUCATION SERIES, conclusion: You now know the main causes of tooth decay: lack of saliva, diet, bacteria and genetics. Your specific risk depends on each of these factors.
The bottom line is this: just having a cavity filled will not stop you from having future cavities. It is critical to understand your unique risk factors to prevent future concerns.
Call us today so we may better help you understand and manage YOUR risk!
TOOTH DECAY EDUCATION SERIES, part 4: Bacteria
Did you know that we each have roughly 120 types of bacteria in our mouths?!? While most are healthy, a small few contribute to tooth decay.
At Madrona Dental Care, we can perform a simple screening test to determine your level of cavity-causing bacteria. We will also prescribe helpful products to minimize your risk, helping you keep your teeth healthy and strong!
TOOTH DECAY EDUCATION SERIES, part 3: Diet and Dietary Habits
Contrary to popular belief, sugar is not the only culprit which can increase your risk for tooth decay. What is also significant is the frequency of meals and the acidity of the foods and drinks you consume.
Each time you eat or drink, the pH in your mouth becomes acidic. Frequent consumption of food and beverages (other than water!) causes a prolonged acidic response in your mouth, greatly increasing your risk for cavities.
Using high pH oral care products after meals can help restore your pH levels to a neutral state, lowering your risk of tooth decay. At Madrona Dental Care, we proudly utilize CariFree products to minimize acidity and risk of tooth decay. Inquire today about how we can help you manage your risk!
We are thrilled to introduce our newest teammate, Kriston Reisnour, RDH! Kriston has been a hygienist for over 30 years and comes to us with a vast knowledge and a love for learning. She has a passion for promoting oral systemic health and providing preventative care. She is gentle and kind and cares about each one of her patients.
In her spare time, Kriston travels the country providing continuing education to her colleagues and also loves training her dogs in tracking skills.
Please join us in welcoming Kriston to Madrona Dental Care!
TOOTH DECAY EDUCATION SERIES, part 2: LACK OF SALIVA
One contributing factor to your risk for tooth decay is a LACK of saliva. One purpose of saliva is to restore the pH levels in our mouths to neutral after eating.
A lack of saliva, which can be caused by medications, aging and certain medical conditions, can cause an increase in the acidity in your mouth (a decrease in pH). This places you at higher risk for cavities!
Dr. Gray is here to discuss your unique risk factors with you and to address those BEFORE you have additional decay. Call us today to learn more!
Madrona Dental Care is excited to present our first educational series on tooth decay! We believe in education, prevention and wellness, and are here to share our knowledge with you.
This week we introduce you to the factors that influence your risk for tooth decay: lack of saliva, diet and dietary habits, bacteria and genetics. All of these areas impact the pH of your mouth, which can directly affect the health of your teeth.
