Our wine maker shared this interesting fact!
Most of us have experienced a corked bottle of wine. If you are wondering why some whites are bottled in a darker glass color, the answer is to avoid lightstrike. While the issues surrounding corked wine are largely well understood and accepted, the effects of exposing wine to light are not as well recognized.
Sparkling rosés or whites and dry white bottles in particular are sensitive to a photo-oxidation of sulphur compounds. Only few minutes of exposure will do the trick leading to unpleasant cooked cabbage, rotten eggs or smelly cheese aromas. Both the nose and the flavors in the mouth can be spoiled.
Some Champagne producers even uses colored cellophane wrapping which filters 98% of the harmful rays of light.
So, in conclusion, protect your precious bottles of wine until it is time to enjoy them. The only funky odor in the glass should only be the one from our new amazing Symbio Gewurztraminer or Verdejo. Cheers!!!.
