Learning some of the local language will not only impress the locals But will also help you!

Especially and most importantly....... with shopping!!!!

"Bikam" means How much?

A few top tips when shopping in Egypt:

If you dont fancy hagging then shopping for souvenirs with a local guide who can help you haggle will help you get those good deals!

When haggling, a good thumb of rule is to to start at approx 50% lower than the price you would like to end up paying.

Try and get the shopkeeper to start off by telling you how much, by asking them "Bikam"? (How much?)

It will be good to know the going price for the items you wish to purchase before you shop for them to give you a target price to aim for.

Know the exchange rate so you know what you are paying if you are haggling in the local currency.

If you don't want it, then feel confident to say no! This is not considered rude here and its common for a shopkeeper to try his best to persuade you to purchase an item and is all part of the haggling game! A confident but polite "La shokrun" (No thank you) will help you alot!
