Checking interest for a summer book club!
I’ve been wanting to start a virtual book club for a while! (If locals want to do in person as well, that’s great too)!
Our first book would be Untangle Your Emotions by Jennie Allen.
The subject matter is really important to me as I think generations of us (men and women) have been taught to minimize and demonize emotions and it has caused and contributed to so much unnecessary pain.
This book is a really good step into understanding our emotions in a healthy way. It’s biblical (in a good way lol) and science backed as well.
It’s a lot of what I do— try to help people integrate their whole selves (Body Mind and Soul) as steps to true health.
It will be Facebook and Zoom based. (And in person if we want!)
There would be a small fee of $10-$15 to support admin cost AND help people feel commited. (Clubs are only fun if people are involved). Plus you would buy your own book.
And yes this bookclub is for women AND men. (As long as there is a healthy mix of both…).

DIGESTION!
Eating the right foods for your body is ESSENTIAL to your health. But this goes hand and hand with GUT HEALTH.
How well you diest your food is pretty important. Have you ever stopped to think about how much we rely on our gut to do its job? When working properly our gut breaks down our food so it can actually fuel our cells and support every single process in the body. ALL OF THEM. BUT so often our guts aren't working properly.
A disruption of our GI system can cause your whole body to struggle-- these disruptions can come from many places: diet, to medications, to stress, to hormone and blood sugar dysregulation....
These gut health disruptions can lead to issues like Inflammation, autoimmune disorders, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, cardio issues, thyroid problems, mood and anxiety disorders, weight gain.... the list goes on.
Finding the ROOT CAUSE of these disruptions is the key.

A part of what I do involves using things found in nature to support health when are bodies need a little extra help.
I have used Essential Oils for YEARS.
Essential oils (for those who don't know) are a natural oil typically obtained by distillation, and are used in health and home remedies for things from first aid to cellular health. Different plants have different uses.
My journey into using essential oils began when my oldest son developed an allergy to MANY classes of antibiotics. I needed to find something to support his health and I was amazed to discover what these little gems can do.....

Holistic. It's become almost a buzz word. You hear it everywhere (or at least I do! lol). But what does it mean?
Well I think it depends on who you ask.
I want to tell you what holistic health means to me--
I believe holistic means there aren't sub-sections of a person. There are neatly divided parts that stay in their own little box. A person IS made up of systems, (maybe) BUT those systems are in CONSTANT contact and it's quite difficult to decide where one of those "systems" end and the other begins.........

Many clients ask me about inflammation. It's become a buzz word but also feels kind of vague. "Anti-inflammatory" is a such a common phrase--but what does that really mean?
Inflammation is a NORMAL part of the body's defense mechanism. It is the process by which the body recognizes and removes harmful and foreign matter and begins the healing process. Sometimes we can see inflammation (a twisted ankle or a wound as it heals), other times inflammation is deep inside the body...

🌼Spring is here! And with it comes the reminder that the sun is our friend!
There has been a hugely successful misdirect that makes the sun a villain we have to protect ourselves from. And it isn't true.
Skin cancer is steadily on the rise despite the wide use of sunscreens and a clear decrease in the amount of time people spend outside.
The sun isn't the issue.
Our diet is.
Eating a highly processed diet filled with packaged foods and seed oils decreases your skin's natural protection from sunburn.
Of course if you're in the sun for extended periods of time you will need some extra protection. Use clothing, hats, shade, and NON-nano zinc oxide based sunscreens to protect your skin and throw those other toxic ones away!
There's many other things we can do to prepare our bodies for the upcoming seasons AND get the most nourishing goodness from our friend, the sun.

The research is backing up what holistic practitioners have known for decades.... The gut has a very direct impact on our brains, mood, and even responses to trauma.
"Those [gut] neurons communicate with the central nervous system through channels like the vagus nerve which connects the brain to the gut. The gut microbiome has its own influence on the brain as well.
Results showed that BMI, depression, and the use of antidepressants had a strong association with the composition of the gut microbiome. A combination of these host factors seemed to interact in complex ways, suggesting that they worked together to change the structure of the microbiome.
Dietary patterns also showed a correlation to the level and severity of trauma symptoms".

It must be the time of year where we're all searching for the sun. ☀️ I've been in conversations all over the place about Vitamin D. I can't get into individual recommendation on a post like this BUT I really want people to understand that supplemental Vitamin D is generally NOT something I recommend. The studies have been available for a while so it is rather confusing why so many holistic health professionals are still pushing it.
Over supplementation of Vitamin D (better called Hormone D) can cause a cascade of issues. I'd LOVE to help you understand all this better.

We really are a garden. Look at the parasympathetic system right there in the middle of the picture. It's our internal tree that needs nourishing. The parasympathetic system is what fuels our calm focused state. It's the system that kicks in to turn off the sympathetic system (aka our fight or flight, kinda stressed out state). The parasympathetic system is also responsible for our rest and our digestion.
In addition to the supportive herbs in the picture, you can nourish your parasympathetic system with quality proteins, healthy fats, and colorful fruits and vegetables.

There's all kinds of things being thrown at us in the news, in the political realm--things you really don't have control over. BUT we CAN take control over your own health. Every person has the capacity for healing. It's never too late or too early to learn how listen to what your body is telling you.

I get TONS of questions about supplements. As an NTP, I like to use a food first mentality to nourishing our bodies! Whole foods, properly prepared, balanced for your bio-individuality are the best way to get nutrients where they need to go.
BUT often we need help. It's really important to use supplements sourced from food. Many vitamins found on the supermarket shelves are doing more harm than good.
These 2 supplements I'm holding have been my LONG time favorites. I have looked into countless bands and for CLEAN multivitamins and digestive enzymes --these continue to be my GO TO.
doTERRA is generally an essential oil brand but their supplements are really well done.
I use several other companies for more targeted vitamins, minerals and other support {Premier is my current fav for those}.

I can personally vouch that this advice is given in the hospital. Kids are encouraged to drink milk shakes and eat candy to put on weight before chemo.
And it enrages me.
Cancer is a metabolic disease caused by a body in a toxic state.
Sugar feeds the problem.
3 days after Kicker was diagnosed with cancer, I asked our Oncologist, “what kind of diet do you recommend my son following to help his healing?” His response shocked me. It left me feeling angry and fearful. With a smirk he replied, “Oh don’t get caught up in that. He can eat whatever he wants right now. A calorie is a calorie and our concern is that he doesn’t lose weight. So, if he wants cake from the cafeteria or french fries, let him have it.”⠀⠀

You see, Cancer is an obligate glucose (sugar) metabolizer. Your normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from using glucose to using ketone bodies (fat). Cancer cells lack this metabolic flexibility, so when you limit glucose, and you increase fat, you effectively work on starving the cancer. So, IT DOES matter what you are eating and a calorie is not just a calorie. ⠀⠀

The seasons change and just like the trees and flowers our bodies go through a change as well. Seasonal symptoms show up to help our bodies detox and process the toxins that we don't want to hang on to! There's less sunlight and generally more processed carbs it's recipe for illness. Remember -- as long as your body is HANDLING the symptoms ok--the symptoms are GOOD. Coughs move out mucous. Runny noses flush our sinuses. Inflammation is needed for a time to help the body get back to homeostasis. What you eat can either help this process or harm it.
Symptoms are our body's way of protecting us or telling us there's a problem. Don't cover up those signals! Listen to your body!!
