Richard Alvin “Rick” Trulson, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Rick was born March 30, 1952, in Stanley, North Dakota, to Alvin Merton Trulson and Margaret Adaline Vedvig Trulson. He grew up and attended schools in Stanley and Palermo, North Dakota.
Rick made his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he was a gifted, lifelong musician. One of his most memorable jobs was becoming a band leader for his friend, Tommy Overstreet. Rick enjoyed making music and made many friends through his music. He loved recording and helping people with his great ear.
He was a generous and easy-going man with a strong faith in Christ. He had a heart of gold. Rick had a quick wit about him, and always had a way of making you smile or crack up over his jokes. He always had a good story or bad joke to share with anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed aviation and horses.
This page will be deleted in a couple weeks giving you the chance to read and reflect on his posts.
Today a nice crew came in from L.A. and recorded a commercial in my studio. Stay tuned for more info.

2022 will be a year for upgrading my studio. I started with a Roland 506 drum set. You need to hear the sound of these drums..wow!
I started playing the accordion at age 3 and still wear the baseball caps.

Released May 21 - SCRATCH "Cherry On Top" recorded and produced by Richard Alvin Trulson in STAR STUDIO, Idaho Falls
If Looks Could Kill 'If Looks Could Kill' First single off new SCRATCH album Cherry On Top!
So to go along with the story on the ES335 Gibson Guitar: You need to look up "Fake Zombies" on the internet and you'll find that Dusty Hill & Frank Beard (ZZ Top) were members of the "Fake Zombies", who my band "The Leather Cup" opened for in 1969 at the Armory in Williston, N. Dak. At the end of the concert I traded my ES335 Gibson for their Rickenbacker 12 string stereo guitar and if you read the story you'll see them playing my guitar. (as shown in the picture all the way to the right) And for the Grand Finale both bands went back on stage and played "Jumpin' Jack Flash" together.
And 1970 was the beginning of ZZ Top.
My band "The Leather Cup" - 1969 Bass - Scott Key, Drums - Mike Hornstein, Keyboards - Scott Olson and Vocals and lead guitar - Rick Trulson. The guitar I'm playing, a Gibson ES335, I traded to a member of ZZ Top for a Rickenbacker guitar. There's a great story that goes along with it that I'll post later on. Picture courtesy of Karen Pachal.
In the studio finishing up a gospel album for Hal Rowberry and the late, great Don Christensen.
Merry Christmas everybody! Thanks for allowing me to share my music with you. And Happy New Year!! I wish everybody a prosperous year.
