Yesterday our founder Santosh Kaur Arora had the opportunity to be part of a small invite only roundtable with our health minister . Mary-Anne Thomas MP, our local MP Hon. Bronwyn Halfpenny MP and Hon. Andrew Giles MP.

She put forward SmartHeal and solutions that can assist us support homegrown products amongst other issues gathered by disucssioms with our advisory group.

It is conversations like this that helps in chipping at away at big national priorities where we need more than a dent.

It was equally amazing to meet other key leaders and influencers in the region.

Most importantly it was the enthusiasm of people to help and do something. Thank you Di Donato for your generosity and Hon. Bronwyn Halfpenny and Minister -Anne Thomas MP for the opportunity and . Frances Guyett for her support.

This week we had the Clinician Entrepreneur Program where 11 of us got the opportunity to showcase our innovation. As always, it is the flow on effect of follow ups after the pitch that is amazing.

It has been amazing 12 months and SmartHeal gained more than we set out for.

13 years ago, our founder Santosh Kaur Arora studied as an international student paying thousands of $$ (literally) per semester to get her nursing degree from Victoria University, Melbourne.

Although, it was clear she had enough credits to only study half of the subjects per semester, she still had to .

Recently she was awarded an . Research Fellowship with The University of Melbourne. This means so much for her. She had always looked at a research role and this is a dream come true.

She is looking forward to conduct further research which can improve the management and negative patient outcomes of chronic wounds.

When I was going to pitch for the first time, I couldn’t figure much to say.

It is one of the things that you surely learn by doing!

So surreal that April last year I was gearing up for a major pitch comp and nearly a year in I am now mentoring for pitch competition.. and that too for researchers, scientists and engineers at Monash Uni!

What is the beauty of being a founder?

You can’t always lay your head on a pillow and go to 🛌.
Oh and when you do and happen to wake up, you can’t always go back to sleep.🙆‍♀️

It’s 3:40 am, I serendipitously woke up at 1.00 after saying night night at 10.00 (ypu do the numbers).

The more you meditate, the more clarity there is and some of the best work is produced in these odd hours.

If you had asked me to wake up at midnight for a job (although I loved it) or anything else, you won’t be my fav person to put in nicely.

But working on , constantly defining and refining its future is food for soul.

I was on a road trip with someone doing a Phd in bad man made chems in bays and they said once you go deep in research on something in your head shifts! They meant maniac on microscopic level🤷‍♀️

I say the same is with founders. There is so much drive and although you know people think you are crazy, you become your own hype person and go back to why is it important to avoid negative patient outcomes?

Why is it worth to burn midnight oil if you could possibly leave a tool behind that could put people in control of thier wound care?

How would you like if you knew you had avoided an amputation? Or a death from sepsis?

How would feel knowing that in a country where going to a specialist is not always financially feasible option and they could use your tool to alleviate that anxiety related to their wounds?

I say I am fine to be crazy!!

Ok now that you know I am working midnight hours back to work!
