Riina is a mother of three boys and a personal trainer and it was her own experiences of post-natal recovery which inspired her to start Nordic Fit Mama. Since then, Riina has brought together experts in maternal wellbeing, to create our holistic post-natal health programme.

Sometimes life gets too much and you'd rather get 10 mins rest rather than do chores or exercise. Whilst Nordic Fit Mama is a six week programme, we encourage mums to do it in your own time, at your own pace. And we have built in rest days as we know that sometimes the best thing for mums is to rest and recuperate.

We asked our team of mums at Nordic Fit Mama what they like to do on their rest days and anything goes from curling up in front of the TV with a box set to taking a long walk out in nature. There are no rules, it's all about what suits you best. Some of our exercises can be done whilst relaxing if you want to - week three shows you how to do pelvic floor exercises whilst you're walking or resting.

Did you know that if you grind your teeth, it could mean that you've got tightness in your pelvic floor? Whilst we talk about building up your core strength, it is equally important to learn how to relax your muscles too, Nordic Fit Mama also teaches you how to do this.

Relaxation is key to maintaining your wellbeing so we encourage our mums to explore ways to fit relaxation time into your schedules - a 10 minute online guided meditation or a 5 min walk around the shops can help perk you up and be more engaged with your family and life.

Hello mamas!

One of the key elements of the Nordic Fit Mama is helping recovery from diastasis recti which is when your abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy or childbirth. Diastasis recti is a natural condition when your belly grows during pregnancy. Statiscs say that over 60% of women suffering after giving birth and roughly a third of women still have it after one year of delivery. Here are some tips for helping to recover.

- Lie on the floor on your back. Bend your knees and relax your abdominal muscles.
- Lift your head and shoulder blades from the floor.
- Use your fingers to find the centreline of your belly between the direct abdominal muscles and trace it from below the breastbone all the way down to the p***c bone. If you can place more than one finger in the gap and/or you feel that the edges of the abdominal muscles are far apart, your abdominal muscles have become separated.
