Born in Benoni, airport road, Benin City and attended Oba Ewuare Grammar School where he played in various school competitions for the school team.

He started his amateur football with Ine Stars FC, Benin before moving to FC Ebedei of Sagamu where he played in the NNL before linking up with Bendel Insurance.

Though he hasn't scored a goal this season, Sunday Anyanwu can be tagged as goals stopper having helped his team with seven clean sheets in nine games where they conceded from open play only in one game - vs Shooting Stars.

His favourite colour is White - just like his character, calm and peaceful like a dove.

In listing out some of his favourite NPFL players, Sunday paid his tribute to the late Chinedu Udoji as his number one alongside ex-Enyimba, Heartland and Kano Pillars FC defender, Emmanuel Anyanwu - who he looked up to as a mentor in his young age, Rivers United captain, Festus Austin and Osas Okoro, his teammate at Bendel Insurance FC.
