Mexia Music Murders 5-Star

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put this one down…
Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2024
If you liked The Godfather, you would enjoy The Mexia Music Murders. I started reading it and didn’t put it down until I finished the book. I usually have the crime solved by the first few chapters—not this one. I challenge you to crack the case before the deputy.

ONE MORE HURDLE CROSSED

I approved the text format of THE PAINTING today. Just one more step before publication. The cover needs to be sized to fit the book. I have the cover already done, and hopefully this can expedite the process.

Getting closer all the time!

Got the interior proof today. Need to make minor corrections on the section names and then we're ready. Still hoping for a February release. Keep your fingers crossed!

One of the problems with being a pantser with a large cast to manage is, that redundancy sets in. I didn't notice it at first, but I have three, unrelated characters with the same last name. Just one of many problems to fix in the first draft!

54,132 words in 22 days! My 2023 NaNoWriMo book, THE WRONG BOX is finished. Now comes the hard part - revising and editing!

17/10/2023

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) begins in 15 days. During that time,I hope to get Hal Blaine and Judee Sill back in action in their second adventure with the working title of The Wrong Box. A tornado deposits a hand-carved mahogany coffin on a ranch in rural Limestone County. Upon investigation, the rancher discovers the coffin is not empty. Hal and Judee are drawn in to solve the mystery. Last time, Judee was poisoned. What catastrophe awaits our beloved Medical Examiner this time?

In the meantime, last year's book is coming closer to being published. The publisher has approved the cover I had designed and here is a sneak peak at what awaits you down the road.

The new book will be my first to be not self-published. I have signed with a hybrid publisher specializing in the book's genre. More details coming soon.

Coming Soon: The Painting

18/09/2023

I held my first-ever book signing at the Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia. I sold a few books and enjoyed visiting with folks.

06/09/2023

I have been revising and revising again as I make "The Painting" the best book thus far. We pick up where "Finding Ted James" left off. Three years later Jack's old house was renovated to become the offices of the JK Foundation. Allora Hughes is hired as the office manager, but before she can get things really rolling, she winds up in a coma following a traffic accident. Years earlier, a drunk driver killed her dad, and she turned her back on church and God. In her coma, she has not one but two conversations with God. Allora emerges a changed woman with a new sense of purpose and a new path for her life.

"The second chance at happiness in Allora's life is rendered with genuine empathy." - Kirkus Reviews.
It is now having a custom cover prepared and formatted for publication. Originally slated for early 2024, it now looks like it may be available for Christmas.

I will keep you posted.

Got this review for the Mexia Music Murders

I have read several of Steve's books and each one is difficult to put down. Mexia Murder Mystery is no exception. After the plot has been painted, the action and twists and turns keep coming. I enjoy how Steve introduces a slight little happening in each chapter that makes you unsure of who really "done it" until near the end of the book. I can't wait until his next one hits the shelves, or, in my case, Amazon!

I have learned it matters not how many books you sell but who reads what you write. We drove out to California to celebrate my Uncle Chuck's 100th birthday. His brother-in-law, my Uncle Ted, was there, and one of the first things Uncle Ted said to me, was how much he enjoyed my first book, especially the chapter involving the Woodcraft Rangers. He got me that summer job, and I am glad it brought back fond memories for him. If no one else ever read the book, that would be enough reward for me.

He is given an opportunity for a do-over of his life. Will he take it? We'll have to wait and see.
