Now here IS the Greatest of all time.
If you know me, you know that I'm not that big on Christmas. But this new house seems to be the perfect backdrop for a tree and some decorations. And Tiffany, my beloved one, has gone ahead and set them up for us.
Oh... if only Christmas was actually like the Hollywood movie versions of it, or the Charles Dickens versions. Although Our Charlie got some of it right with the starving poor and the workhouses of Victorian England. And if only it wasn't considered a time of peace and joy, without acknowledging that what we need is peace and joy all year long.
And of course it isn't actually that, but even if it were – wouldn't that somehow make it even worse that for the rest of the year we murder and pillage each other, and make up crazy moralistic excuses as to why that's okay.
Yet still... some of the magic of it remains with me from childhood. Much of which got lost... erased by family fights and recriminations that always seem to come to the surface just when everyone is "making merry." But there lingers yet a hopefulness and an excitement that Santa will visit, in spirit if not in person, that the world will change and become a better place, and that happiness and satisfaction will prevail come the new year.
So we drown ourselves within that fantasy for a minute, knowing, as all adults do, that it is simply make believe. And perhaps it is true that much will not change by itself. But I like to hold on to the notion that if I work at it, I can personally change just a few of the injustices of this life.
So I urge you all to take life into your own hands. Think good thoughts about others. Don't be stepping on them to raise yourself up. They are not as different to you as you think. We are all in this together. That is the best message I can give you, and if you can bring this through the season into every day of the next year, then we will have achieved something together.
Love and blessing to all.

We are the children of the timeless forest,
A link in the precious chain, our color is green.
Exhale for your breathing, protecting your soil,
We live a life longer than any other creature has seen.
You can’t bring us back, once you have cut us down.
You can’t bring us back, once we’re no longer around.
Our future is in your hands, so please remember that
You cannot bring us back.
We are the roots of a dying civilization.
The Earth must continue, should we cease or should we thrive.
She is far wiser than to let you hold her hostage.
Your loss will not even bring a tear of sadness to her eyes.
You can’t bring us back, once you have cut us down.
You can’t bring us back, once we’re no longer around.
Our future is in your hands, so please remember that
You cannot bring us back.
We are somehow connected, you animals and we plants,
Inseparably united by the carbon floating through the air.
If either one of us dies, we shall all die together.
My innocence will not even save me from this feeling of despair.
You can’t bring us back, once you have cut us down.
You can’t bring us back, once we’re no longer around.
Our future is in your hands, so please remember that
You cannot bring us back.ce=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Trees If we were the trees, and another species was obliterating us from the face of the planet, then maybe we would sing this song.
This is what made me love world music when I was a little child.

It’s a slow descent down the road to hell,
I have traveled it before and I know it well.
When I saw it approach I made this promise to myself,
I said - You must not go that way again
But I was drawn like a magnet ... or a hammer to a nail,
By the weight of my history and all that entails.
I could see it quite clearly as it pulled me in,
And I thought — Oh ... here I go again
Chorus:
And I asked myself — What did I do to end up in this place?
They say there’s no such thing as failure, no such thing as disgrace,
All decisions made in anger, and the bridges we will burn,
Are just another opportunity to learn
I wondered what could be waiting for me through this door.
What could I have learned that I did not know before?
Must there always be such sorrow when you first start to grieve?
Must I go that way again?
Chorus
Could the answer be so simple - that you make what you choose?
That you choose how you sound by the voice that you use?
There must be some way out, and I would like to believe
That I will not go that way again.
Chorus

Unfortunately, another one of our great heroes has passed. Alan White, the drummer with YES, has died at the age of 72. He joined Yes in 1972 as a replacement for original drummer, Bill Bruford. Following the death of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, White became the longest-remaining member in the band.
In 1969 White had joined John Lennon & Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band, after Lennon invited him to play at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival, followed by a show at the Lyceum Ballroom. He notably played drums on the singles "Instant Karma!" and "Imagine", as well as on eight tracks on Lennon's Imagine album.
In addition to his work with Yes and John Lennon, White performed on over 50 albums by other performers, notably George Harrison, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Terry Reid, Joe Cocker and The Ventures.
White was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of Yes, in 2017.
