This week I attended brilliant conference where was the keynote speaker. It was great to finally meet this inspiring educator!
Yesterday I was so excited to received my new personalised Acme Whistle and other goodies from 😍😍
Last term, my Year 5 students had SO much fun trying to decide which set of fractions were the trickiest to order! We ran a “Fraction Ordering Tournament” where students applied their understanding of how to order fractions.
They worked through a tournament bracket to determine which set of fractions was trickiest to order.
Students worked in pairs to explain their thinking for each decision as they went.
One of my students even went home and 3D printed a trophy in anticipation of the winner! 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Despite working pairs, and having reasoning, all groups came to an unanimous conclusion about which was the trickiest set to order!
Can YOU guess which set my student decided was the trickiest set to order?
A HUGE thanks to for the lesson and inspiration 😀
R U OK?
Today our school took time to reflect on the meaning of R U OK day and the importance of asking and helping those who might be stuck in their sadness. While students and staff were treated to yellow cupcakes, the day also provided an opportunity participate in a number of wellbeing learning experiences.
I LOVE the Australian Math Trust’s annual Math Challenge! It is a BRILLIANT enrichment opportunity for gifted mathematicians. This competition encourages collaboration and reasoning as well as critical thinking skills! Check it out for next year if you haven’t already… In the meantime I am hoping to finish up marking my students’ entries tonight! 💪🏻
In my classroom, I have VERY limited wall space, SO what I display must be purposeful and meaningful!
My FAVOURITE bulletin boards show the PROCESS of learning and my students’ thinking.
Recently, I have found that displaying photos that capture students’ learning can be incredibly POWERFUL!
Photos can capture moments of learning, collaboration and expansion of knowledge. By displaying them meaningfully, photos also provide opportunities for reflection!
I am SO HAPPY with how my “How to be a Problem Solver” display turned out - and it works right across all my primary school classes.
I love that the photos next to each strategy highlight the agency given to students. It reminds students that their different approaches to solving problems are valued. As a bonus, it puts a face to the learners that enter my classroom - from Kindergarteners to Year 6!
A special thank you to the for making this BRILLIANT poster set! I just LOVE it!
I just LOVE using open-ended maths questions! ✖️➗➕➖
Today each type of pattern block was given a value and my Kindergarteners worked out the total value of their designs.
We had BLAST practicing addition skills and revising shape properties but it allowed for plenty of student AGENCY and choice too 🤩!
Such a simple question but so many opportunities for differentiation! I think next time we might choose a target number … maybe studentsin my older grades could have do a similar task fractions 💭🤔
Do you love open-ended questions math questions as much as me? 🫶
Please let me know in the comments!! 🙏🏼
Now this looks like is a BRILLIANT exhibition!
Until July 2023, you can see some of the most beautiful picture books and artworks in the The State Library of New Wales collection with their at new exhibition “Imagine”.
Look what arrived today! I am sooo excited to share this with my students. It seems like an easy read that shows that children with ADHD have many strengths 💪🏻. Thank you .teacher.xox for sharing this one and thanks to making such a positive difference in this space by writing this! 🫶🙏🏼
What have you been reading over the break? These are two of my favourites and include some truly transformational teaching ideas. 📚🫶💭
I love seeing the different ways my students think! Challenging students to see others viewpoints and ways to solve problems one of the most valuable skills teachers can impart. 🌏🫶
