Donating plasma with Steve!

Did you know......
Cancer patients are the main recipients of plasma?

Plasma can be donated every 2 weeks and whole blood every 3 months.

I'm going to continue to donate plasma every fortnight to honour Bec πŸ₯°

Our beautiful warrior lost her battle yesterday.

Steve was by her side as she took her last breath and left this world.

Our thoughts are with Steve, Bruce (Bec's dad), Bec's siblings, all her nieces and nephews, and everyone that loved this incredible woman.

Bec was such an inspiration to Briony & I. The strength she showed as she battled the beast was truly mind blowing.

Not a day will go by that we aren't thinking of you.
Thank you for being my sister.

Rest peacefully sweetheart ❀️❀️

πŸ’™ Appreciation post for my little brother πŸ’™

Over the last 6 months, my brother Steve has shown what true love looks like. He has been by Bec's side every moment of every day. He has shown her the kind of love and support that comes from the most genuine of hearts.

My brother can be the biggest goofball and has driven me bonkers over the years, but the way he has looked after Bec has shown me how incredible he truly is.

This is without a doubt the toughest time in Steve's life, and we will do everything we can to be there for him and help him through it.

We love you Steve ❀️

Our beautiful warrior Bec Thoroughgood has a new friend, her morphine drip.

With that and a concoction of other pain meds, she is being kept as comfortable as possible at home.

Although I can't run right now, I know Briony will still be Blitzing it for you, Bec.

We love you sweetheart. Keep fighting, and I will see you next weekend ❀️❀️

Oops.

Today's run didn't go so well in Wangaratta. Although I was making fairly good time on my intended 5k, I took a tumble in front of about a million people, at peak school-drop off time, and took off a few layers.

My knees and pride are a bit sore now πŸ™„

I have to share this picture of Steve and Bec.

Look at these baby faces! πŸ₯°πŸ₯°
So damned cute.
Taken all the way back in 2009, when they had their whole lives ahead of them.

True love right there folks. Always & forever ❀️

Introducing Mr & Mrs Thoroughgood πŸ₯°

Yesterday our brave warrior married the love of her life.

In the space of 6 days, everyone worked their butts off to pull together the most beautiful and emotional wedding ever.

Congratulations to the happy couple! Steve & Bec, we are so honoured to have been able to share your incredible day ❀️

❀️ Love is in the air ❀️

On Saturday Bec and Steve are getting married. About bloody time too, after 18 years together, and being engaged for 8 of them!

This decision was only made 4 days ago, and in that time, almost everything has been organised. This will be, without a doubt, the most beautiful, love-filled, emotional wedding ever.

We are so honoured to be attending this very special event β€οΈπŸ’πŸ’

While our brave warrior continues to fight the bastard that is cancer, I'll continue running πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Always tricky on night shift, but still managed to get a good time (for my standard anyway).
My splits are consistent, if nothing else! 🀣

04/02/2024

The music trivia night has been cancelled.
All ticket sales will be refunded.

We apologise for the disappointment and appreciate your understanding ❀️

Our hearts are breaking πŸ’”
The medication hasn't worked.

On Friday Bec and Steve met with the oncologist, who gave them the devastating news that Bec's courageous battle will soon be over.
Bec's liver is destroyed and her kidneys are starting to shut down.

Our beautiful warrior is now settled at home, where the palative care team will ensure she is as comfortable as possible, and Steve and all her loved ones can spend those last precious moments together.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and love. Bec has said often that it is this support she feels from the Blister Sisters community that has kept her going.

We are so grateful for all the love and generosity that gave Bec the strength to keep fighting ❀️

Not running today - donating plasma instead!

If you haven't donated blood or plasma for a while, book yourself in. You never know who your blood will help. Might even be someone like Bec ❀️❀️

Happy New Year to all our beautiful supporters!

We hope 2024 brings everyone so much love and happiness πŸ₯°

Let this be the year that Bec Mather kicks cancer to the kerb, and proves all the specialists wrong that said her cancer was unsurvivable πŸ‘Š

No New Year's resolution for me (B1), I just want to keep doing what I'm doing, and maybe even get under 5 hrs for one of my marathons.

First run done for '24. F*** it's hot!! πŸ₯΅πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

❀ HOW GREAT ARE PEOPLE ❀

Last night Kelly Wells and her team at the Newborough Pub hosted an incredible night for our beautiful Bec!

This event was organised by Kelly out of the goodness of her heart after she learned of Bec's story and the work we have been doing to try and raise awareness and funds for Bec's cancer treatment.

Kelly's act of kindness continued as she sought donations from the local community who generously donated incredible prizes for a huge raffle! Rick Dessmann (Ricky D) jumped on board and donated his time and amazing voice to provide a brilliant night of live music!

Not only did Kelly bring the local community together for such a wonderful night, she showed everyone what an incredible difference you can make to other people's lives just by being kind and compassionate, even if you have never met them before πŸ₯°

Kelly, the legend, even shaved her head at the end of the night to help remind Bec that she is not alone and to help drum up some more donations with the hope of reaching $6k to go towards one fortnight of Bec's treatments!!

To date, the night has a raised a total of $2,797 to go towards Bec's treatments and Kelly has kindly offered to keep the donation drive going for a little while longer to keep aiming for the $6k mark!

We are beyond grateful to Kelly and the team, Ricky D and the local community for their incredible support. There are just not enough words to show our appreciation or how much of an impact you have had on us all, THANK YOU πŸ™

So do yourself a favour, the next time you are trying to decide where to go for dinner, head to the Newborough Pub for a great feed and friendly service!

This is what $6,000 looks like πŸ‘‡

Every two weeks Bec and Steve pay $6k for the medication that could very well save Bec's life.
The government pays for the rest of the treatment for 9 months after Bec & Steve have forked out the first $24k.

Our fundraising hasn't stopped. We have managed to cover the first 9 months, but we won't be stopping there.

Many more special events to come as we do everything we can to ensure Bec gets the treatment she needs.

We love you Bec. You've got this πŸ‘Šβ€οΈ

So proud of our crew and everyone who participated on the day to make it such a special event ❀

Get the tissues ready, because this might bring a tear to your eye πŸ₯Ή

Our beautiful brave Bec made the huge decision to shave her head, after getting sick of handfuls coming out when she washed her hair, finding it on her pillow, on Steve's face, and even in the fridge (that one has us puzzled πŸ€”)

Bec courageously chose to do it after The Hallora Marathon, surrounded by all the love and support of the Blister Sisters support crew.

Through plenty of tears and lots of hugs, the last of Bec's locks were shaved off. Then the line formed for those that wanted to shave their heads too:

Steve - Bec's finance (and Jodi's bother) bravely had his hair and beard removed. First time anyone has seen his chin for about 20 years!

Corey - Jodi's hubby - opted for the viking look, shaving his head and keeping his beard.

Tristan - Briony's brother - went for a shaved head and his beard off, keeping a Chopper Reid style mo.

Caty - Steve's niece - opted to shave her undercut, not quite willing to take the whole lot off.

And a very special mention to 3 year old Jackson, Tristan & Belinda's son, who wanted his hair to "look like Daddy's".

Bec, we know that you are still getting used to your new look, but you still look so beautiful. Being bald will never change that. We love you so much ❀️❀️
