David Curington - "BIT-1" — Tome to the Weather Machine 08/10/2023

Thanks to Tome To The Weather Machine for the feature of the first track of 2-BIT, now out on Hard Return.

Joining the Hard Return roster was indeed "a match made in heaven" for this one!

David Curington - "BIT-1" — Tome to the Weather Machine A match made in heaven if you ask me. David Curington joins ATTN Magazine / Jack Chuter’s expertly crafted Hard Return label for a round of deeply experimental, glitched, fried electronics with 2-Bit. “A decidedly lo-fi release from composer and visual artist David Curington, made entirely by bi...

Recommendations for independent poetry blogs/reviewers/shows?

I've got a release in the pipeline to share that is perhaps more concrete poetry than music.

Comment below.

2-BIT, by David Curington 06/10/2023

Need some palette-cleansing audio this ? Listen no further.

Thanks to Hard Return and Jack Chuter for projecting my experiments across the internet and especially to mastering wizard Richard Scott.

Turn it up. Way up.

2-BIT, by David Curington 05/10/2023

Out today on Hard Return: 2-BIT.

A decidedly lo-fi release, made entirely by bitcrushing sine tones and the stock metronome sound in Logic to death and sounding something like a Boys Noize and Yes, Indeed collab, played back by an 80s PC with nowhere near enough RAM.

Do not adjust your speakers...

Thanks to Hard Return, Jack Chuter and Richard Scott for mastering wizardry.

I've got a pretty solid trio of releases coming up in the next 6 months: expect 2-bit lofi lacerations in October, manic collages and non-functional social media adverts in December and text experiments in audio form in February.

Any reviewers / radio hosts that want in on these ahead of time, DM me.

Finished composing (yes, composing!) a series of 5 short spoken-word pieces that are halfway between maths and music. Using the grammar of various mathematical subject areas and their associated symbols as notation.

Something like the Aphergis Récitations but with maths. Not Tom Johnson, in the sense that they're not trying to literally lay out mathematical structures as musical notation and sound: I've given myself creative licence to follow what "sounds better" but isn't grammatically correct or mathematically meaningful in places.

However, although you won't need to know any maths to appreciate the flow of sounds (a bit like enjoying listening to the shipping forecast without being in the shipping industry?) there are plenty of deeper references for the mathematically inclined.

Now to typeset them I've got to relearn LaTeX! Will be recording them myself and searching for interested record labels in the near future, then will happily give the score to any interested vocalists that aren't scared off by maths 😆

You might have noticed I've changed my profile pic / self portrait back to my original one. I honestly think it's better and have been struggling for a while to make a better / more current one. What do you think of this latest attempt?

I was recently asked to contribute to a memory book for Adam Gorb's retirement as Head of Composition at RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music, offering a message of thanks and a snippet of music. As I don't notate anything anymore, I instead contributed this bit of digital art (to be printed in the book).

It's called "Notational Memories (for Adam Gorb)" and it's a manipulation of a photo taken of my old Moleskine composition sketchbook, viewed afresh as a found object.

David Curington’s Sprawling, Plunderphonic Ambient Piece “Assured Listening Experience” is Like a Creative Deconstruction of the Constant Media Content Bombardment of Everyday Life 12/02/2023

Happy bandcamp Friday! Assured Listening Experience is now fully released on Square Ears and I'm celebrating by completing this triptych of images which are an offshoot of another music/visual art project I have in the pipeline...

I thought I'd create images using snapshots from Microsoft Office applications (dragged into Photoshop), thus using something completely utilitarian to create something without any use at all - that absurd idea really got me going creatively. Seems like all my ideas that spark anything come from absurd places these days!

Keeping the house warming with a wood-burning stove and the soot and the heat inside the stove made an interesting texture that I used for these. Also struggling for motivation with my music atm so thought I'd have a photography day!

Huge thanks to Difficult Art and Music for putting together this new release. Turning Schenker over in his grave, stripping Bach chorales naked and fun lockdown collaborations with Nina Whiteman and David Birchall. What more could you want? Cassette and DL:

"Hold Screen (Squeaky Clean)" is out today on so naturally I thought I'd celebrate by taking pictures of my wooden table in my garden. The frozen weather did interesting things to the wood and I used the texture to create these images.
