They are shedding their winter coat and asking me for more branches, I spent a lot of time with this group over winter taming them down and getting used to body contact, hopefully next year I will have some candidates for milking 🌿

The very adaptable reeves muntjac, making his way through some thick snow in the UK! Originating from warmer climates they have adapted very well ❄️🦌

Cedar Breaks Mule Deer Ranch

We’re always trying to replicate the natural habitat when we can, winter brings poor native grasses in the pens, the wild mule deer will graze and browse on whatever they have the opportunity to.🌿
The Winters can be very harsh here, with thick snow covering the ground, they turn to the trees to strip bark and eat more coniferous tree leaves. 🌲
We have a plant here called a Yucca plant which is scattered all across the local prairie habitat, which adds a nice tone of green to the n**e landscapes. Their leaves are razor sharp to touch, but the mule deer love this source of nutrients and enjoy chewing on the roots.
We dig up these plants in our own pens and take it to the deer to enjoy. Not only do they love munching on them, they also love to toss them around with their antlers, such great enrichment for the pen deer! 🦌

“Whitetails of Wisconsin Banquet spring banquet is being held March 19-20th at Three Bears Lodge in Warrens, Wisconsin. Many people have asked-Yes, it is an In-person meeting! We have some fantastic speakers lined up for a day full of learning and networking.
WOW is currently seeking donations. All semen donated in enrolled into the Biggest Yearling Contest ($2,000 prizes per division). We also have advertising available in our auction catalog ($100 per 8.5x11 page). We appreciate any and all donations big or small and look forward to seeing all of our Deer Friends!”

Great news for Columbus zoo with the birth of a male tufted deer. ✨
Here are last years mule doe fawns Cedar Breaks Mule Deer Ranch, this one I’ve named Dolly, she loves to be centre of attention whenever I enter the pen, she’s extremely fond of human interaction.
Building trust with your deer is very important for handling and health checking; this can be achieved by regular visits to the pen, creating a positive calm environment they associate you with or feeding treats/browse while you’re in there etc. 🦌
Not all of this group was bottle raised and those usually run to the other side of the pen when you enter, so I am working on slowly taming them down.
