A heatwave in Gainsville 29/08/2023

We love hot weather. But I think we both found our heat threshold when we visited Gainsville, Florida, during the heatwave in July this summer. We seem to have a knack for temperature extremes this summer, our trip to Crisp Point Lighthouse in June had us in multiple layers in 40-degree weather, and then this Florida trip went the opposite direction with extreme heat that took me days to recover from when we got home, not to mention the New Orleans trip a few weeks ago....

New Orleans: So much more than Bourbon Street 15/08/2023

The nest is officially empty with the youngest kid who just graduated, moved out, and is all set to start college now. So, this summer, we have been traveling a lot. We have been to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Columbus, Indiana, Gainsville, Florida, and most recently, New Orleans, Louisiana. We have both been to New Orleans before, but this was our first time together....

Hilton Head 30/06/2023

We travel to South Carolina a lot. Curtis has family down there, so we spend a few days with them near Greenville and then usually head to the Charleston area. On one of our most recent trips, since I have never been there, we went to Hilton Head Island instead. Hilton Head is accessed by a bridge from the mainland of the South Carolina Low Country....

A weekend as Crisp Point Lighthouse Keepers, Lake Superior, Michigan 21/06/2023

There are a few places we've been that we love and like to go back to as often as we can. The Upper Penninsula, or U.P. in Michigan is one of those places. Our favorite place, Crisp Point Lighthouse, is northwest of Paradise, a very sparsly populated town on the eastern side of the state which becomes less populated the further north you go....

Lake Erie camping: Put-In-Bay day trip 28/05/2023

We kind of stumbled into our Five Great Lakes in Five Years adventure plan. We first camped on Lake Michigan, then thought it would be fun to hit all of the lakes. A few weeks ago, I posted a story about that camping trip on Lake Michigan in the Leelanau Peninsula where we were looking for Petosky stones one Labor Day weekend....

We travel to Charleston, SC at least once a year. Here are five really fun things we have done on those trips. Link is my bio!

Five great things to do in Charleston, SC. 22/05/2023

Having family in South Carolina means that we get to go to Charleston a lot, which doesn't hurt my feelings at all. Charleston has been my favorite U.S. city for a very long time, so it was a plus when Curtis and I met, he has family there and we both loved the climate and area. We are usually in South Carolina a couple of times a year, so that means we make it to Charleston at least once a year for a few days at a time....

48 hours in London 15/05/2023

Ever since we met, Curtis and I have talked about traveling internationally. Last fall, we took a 17 day trip to London and Scotland. We were only in London for 48 hours total, 12 hours on the way to Scotland, and 36 on the return journey-- with that leg on the weekend of Queen Elizabeth's funeral. We didn't know how that would affect our trip since she passed away while we were just four days into our Scotland time, but we understood the historic nature of it so if we had to make changes we were fine out of respect for the people in the countries we were visiting....

Our trip to Louisville was an impromptu trip, but one that we were really happy we took, since neither of us had been there before. I tend to be a big planner when it comes to trips. I do tons of research and get everything scheduled, so to do something different was kind of fun. It was the same weekend that we were to be mushroom hunting in southern Indiana, but storms and tornados changed our camping plans, which really didn't hurt our feelings....

A ghost in Indiana, The Blue Lady of the Story Inn 23/04/2023

I love a good ghost story. I want so badly to believe in ghosts, too, but I'm such a skeptic when it comes to that kind of thing. I think a ghost could come up, tap me on the shoulder, and have a conversation with me, and I'd still try to justify it somehow. We've lived in a few weird houses that had things happen that were truly unexplainable....
