Middle Music
Unique, beautiful, bizarre music exists in small places. Middle Music seeks to lift up diy and small
Their evocative lyrics guide you through their songs as a journey, with nonlinear structures. Tempos and mood vary from song to song, and within songs. Gilt Drip

There is a quiet peacefulness that runs through this musical representation of Katie. The sounds are hushed, the lyrics introspective, sometimes direct, sometimes vague.

Abort the court for the fourth.
In just three words, The Counter Elites sum up how many of us are feeling, "Abort the Court."

This new Baby Jesus Paper Boy e.p. continues to be a unique blend of guitars, saxophone, and eccentricities. Let It Happen On Purpose starts with bird chirps and a breezy groove, but their is a slight subversiveness underneath the ease of the song.

What a cathartic and wonderful night of punk adjacent tunes with Axons, Deep Fake, and Shannon Candy at Hideout Inn.

Matt has a history in punk and musical theater and glimpses of that history exist in this textured and upbeat song. The verses are a back-and-forth between the high and low end of Matt’s vocal range, which seems to be representative of the overall feel and message of this song. Matt Squared

When my mind starts to ping between sounds as wide ranging as the Taking Heads or the Laurel Canyon scene at its peak wistful melancholy, I like very much where I end up. Which, here, is a rock solid collection of songs that take you on a journey from the past into the future. Liam Kazar

With Friends Like Bees is the debut full band project for Katy Needs A Life, and it’s a dang hit. Each song is a cohesive blend of pop-punk, new wave, and 90’s alt-rock. Songs feel emotional and anxious, while also being fun, rocking, and dancey.

Wipes has a thick and full sound which makes the trio sound more like a double trio? I think it’s the excellent layering of distorted guitar and distorted bass which create a satisfying wall of sound that I will happily allow to collapse on me.

This album is a lot. There are moments of tender folk nostalgia, there are cheerleader chants, and there is endless ambition in this theatrical album. R3id

"The music, like the lyrics, are a pleasant mix of abstract and direct. The recording has a lo-fi warmth reminiscent of Free Cake for Every Creature."

When searching for new music, I’m always looking for songwriters who have a uniquely honest songwriting style, and Claudi is without a doubt one of the most unique songwriters in the indie-rock world right now.

Burr Oak - The musicianship, arrangements, and melodies are so listenable as to be deceptively simple. It seems like it just “should be”.

Publicity Stunt hailing from Northwest Indiana is putting their own spin on the classic pop punk sound. You dig the Smoking Popes, Face to Face, or Wax? Then Publicity Stunt will be right up your alley.

Jessica Ever blends the best sounds of the 90’s alternative scene (think Chicago exports like Liz Phair or the Smashing Pumpkins) with a more contemporary sensibility that values direct and specific songwriting.

The Figbeats captured a sound in the production of Circle the Drain which harkens back to a specific time in post garage rock, without sacrificing quality. Did I mention I like this album?

And it was worth the wait, as these songs shine and deliver fans a “dose” of classic Liz Phair: specific and sincere songwriting on a variety of topics from love to divorce to finding a golden middle of indulgence.

The tracks move along nicely, with a distinct groove and explosive pop chorus to top it all off. This album is another enjoyable musical shift for the ever eclectic and prolific serengeti

There’s a warmth, there’s a relaxing vibe. The vocals and backing vocals are well constructed, creating a welcoming ambience. Lantern from northwest Indiana.
