All hands on deck to bring New Zealand's sailing and maritime history to life 22/06/2020

All hands on deck to bring New Zealand's sailing and maritime history to life The Maritime Museum’s volunteers share what the ocean means to them, and why sailing is more than an elite boy’s club. “This one would have been home built,” James Clarke says, pointing to a wooden sailboat on display at New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa. This particular w...

Shorthanded sailing a battle of mind and body 17/06/2020

Doyle Sails are happy to assist teams with their aspirations towards success in the two-handed keelboat scene, with almost all of the panel unanimous in their desire to compete in a SSANZ Round North Island Race one day, and maybe even take a family member along - hallucinations or not.

Shorthanded sailing a battle of mind and body Hallucinations are common and one experienced campaigner thinks shorthanded offshore sailing helped prepare her for motherhood.

Kupe - Voyaging by the Stars | Television | NZ On Screen 17/05/2020

Forget the idea that sailing’s fun — it’s not, not what you guys are going to be doing. For me — when I go to sea, and I’ve done it so many times — it’s the compelling challenge and the adventure of it all ... trying to find islands 1000s of miles away with no instruments. You get this strong sense of understanding your heritage and this tremendous pride and respect for your ancestors, because in a lot of ways you’re dealing with the exact same elements that they did.
– Hawaiian Naenoa Thompson, director of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, to Te Aorere’s prospective crew

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

Be Kind 💚

Thanks for staying home New Zealand, by staying home we can break the chain of transmission and save lives.

Here are some do’s and don’ts to remember this weekend:
