Functional Fragments
A source for humans that choose mobility over sedentary life.
HIP OPENERS AND ANKLE FLEXION
We spend so much of our lives in the Sagittal plane. We sit, stand, walk, often times we even lift weights in only one plane of motion. We are capable of twist and turns, sideways, upsand downs!
Here is your super simple movement of the day to make it up to your body.
FUNFACT
This stretch is both a hip opener and a calf stretch. You may get into the correct position and only feel a stretch in your supporting legs calf, that’s totally ok! Likewise you may feel it takes more work to balance on your support foot and feel a deep stretch in your straightened leg.
Take note of what you feel ALWAYS!
HOW TO DO IT
If you need some assistance getting your body to the ground while your heel is on the ground you should first try with a fairly thick book placed under your heel. (about 1-1.5 inches)
-Place the book under your supporting heal
-Keeping your knee behind your toes suat on the supporting leg and let your other leg out to your side
-your extended leg should be straight and the top of your foot and your knee should be facing the ceiling
-Use your hands on either side of your supporting leg for balance if necessary
-Keeping your back straight you may walk your hands forward to feel deeper into the stretch.
WRISTS
7 Wrist and fingers warmups
NOTE: Do not put all of your weight into your wrists.
-palms on the ground, fingers toward you. Rock forward and backward.
-Palms on the ground, fingers to the side
-Palms on the ground, fingers facing each other
-palms up, fingers toward you
-palms up, wrists together
-palms up, fingers together
FINGERS
-palms on the ground, fingers facing forward
-keeping your fingers on the ground and lift your palms
-shift your weight from pinky to pointer finger
We are excited to announce our page launching on April 1!
We are body workers seeking to enhance the lives of our clients and ANYONE who chooses a full and exciting life of mobility.
So many of our clients ask “when should I come back?” “When will this pain go away?” “what will ‘fix’ me?”. Every day we do things to our body that impact our posture, our breathing, our ability to move around comfortably. We owe it to ourselves to show our bodies compassion, to do something daily that allows our bodies to feel strong and free.
