If you've dined with us, you know this friendly face. Owner, Luis came to Brooklyn from Paraguay at a young age. In his early twenties, met Yasu who convinced him to eat more vegetables and raw fish. A friendship was born, and so was U Omakase.
You'll find him at the counter, sharing the specifics of each dish as we serve you. Come through

In the Kitchen with head chef Yasu 🍣 His story:
Born and raised in Okinawa, Yasu spent his childhood diving for sea urchins off the Japanese coast and bringing whatever he didn’t eat on the beach to his father’s restaurant. By 13, he was working there — the beginning of a long apprenticeship under several master sushi chefs, including a two-time winner of Japan’s equivalent to “Iron Chef”.
Yasu moved to America in his twenties, eventually opening a fish market that also served sushi from a small storefront. He brings the soul as an artist to his food, experimenting with tastes, textures, and colors. We're lucky to have him here at U.Omakase ❤️
