Hello Sheffield Family,

I wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself to those that might not know me and to say hello to those that do. My name is Dewayne Roden and known to many of you as “Coach Roden” and I am running for the District 2 City Council member position.

As a candidate I wanted to share my background with you over the years of living in Sheffield. My wife, Twyla (Cox), who is a graduate of Sheffield High School, Class or 1974, and I have resided in Sheffield since marrying in 1976. Both of our children, Chris Roden and Hollie Peeden (Roden), attended the great schools of Sheffield from their elementary days at Blake through graduation at Sheffield High School. We currently have five grandchildren, of which two of them are students in the Sheffield School system, and the other three reside in Hoover, AL.

Over the years I have volunteered as the PTO President at Blake Elementary in our District 2, served for over twenty-one years as a pee-wee football coach for the City of Sheffield Recreation Center for ages 8-12 years old. I also volunteered for nine years as a coach for girls’ softball for the Sheffield Recreation Center as well and have had the privilege to see these kids grow-up to be successful adults in life. Over the years of living in Sheffield, Twyla and I have owned 57 apartments and 8 houses and have had the joy of getting to know, help and support people over the years. To remain involved in our community in 2003, I started as an AHSAA official and was named umpire of the year in 2012 for the AHSAA softball for the state of Alabama. I retired from the Constellium Metal Company (formerly Reynold’s Aluminum) after 39 years.

As a member of District 2 for the past 43 years, I have seen the good times and the challenging times we have faced in Sheffield. I am more than ever ready to go to work for our District 2 and the city of Sheffield to take our great city to the next level we are capable of being. I will always stand up for what the people of District 2 want, because it is not about me, it is about our District and the best for our people of District 2. I ask that you vote for me on August 25th to help get the new year of 2021 off to a great start and growing the great City of Sheffield once again. Thank you for your time and support as we work together!
