WildMountain Nigerians
We're a small family run farm breeding quality purebred Nigerian Dwarf goats up on Sumas Mountain in BC's beautiful coastal rain forest.
WildMountain Nigerians is officially locked and loaded and off to the 2024 West Nationals! Can't wait to hang out with all our goat friends this weekend, safe travels to all competitors! ๐๐
Not to everyone's tastes, but I feel a rather vicious sense of vindication when I finally catch rats in the barn. They're wicked smart and I have to train them to the trap, baiting it but not setting it over the course of a week, and then one night...BAM!
Like I said, wicked smart and ridiculously fast! This fellow almost made it out of the way in time but not quite. My ravens are well fed this morning ๐ค. Hoping I get his brother tonight ๐ค
Just pulled over to watch a twister form and attempt to touch down beside hwy 1 close to 4 road in Abbotsford....๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ
We have a selection of mature does and doelings available!
All of our doelings are out of FURTHER DSC JIM BEAM. We are already seeing that proven escutcheon shape stamped on his kids, with lots of width between the hocks! We're so excited to see our Jim kids mature!
Just like every year, in order to keep our herd small, we need to part with some of our mature does. We made the decision to let Bea go because we are keeping both her daughters out of Jim this year. Matilda has an absolutely fabulous body and her buckling this year was exactly the same!
Clean herd, testing for Johnes/CAE yearly, and testing any non vaccination abscesses for CL.
All does are up to date with vaccinations, and kids have 1st shots, are disbudded and will be treated with coccidia prevention the day they leave the farm.

I bought a thing!
I have been hankering after a svelt little cargo trailer (but only with barn doors, roof vents, side door, arched roof, single axle and 6x12') and Sunday evening I found my dream trailer! I spent an evening(and morning) learning how to inspect one( spotting leaks, frame issues, leaking brakes, bent axles, tire wear, electrical check) and bought my new favorite toy! It even came insulated with opening windows installed so I didn't need to figure out how to do it! Introducing my new goat mobile!! This little cutie is not only going to transport our herd to the shows but I'm going to sort out fold down beds so the kids and I can sleep in here when we're far from home ๐. Also...it tows like a dream ๐ฅฐ
Time to play interior designer ๐จ and can't wait for the Barriere Dairy Goat Show May 23-26th!
Despite all my learning, pregnancy feeding precautions, and experience in complicated births, sometimes I just can't get to that happy outcome of a healthy mom and babies at the end of labor. Trigger warning for those of you who have soft hearts๐ค
Phoebe was our last Nigerian to kid this season and she went out with a bang unfortunately. Labor stalled, and when I went in for what I thought was a single she had extremely tangled twins. I had to work so hard to get one out! We finally delivered a little live buckling. I thought that with just one remaining we were out of the woods, but that wasn't the case. The remaining kid was neck back, legs down and though I have done that position, there was just no room to maneuver him. I felt helpless as I struggled which is not a position I've been in before.
There was more blood than should have been, and Isabel and I both quietly noted the scraps of what looked like muscle tissue that started coming on my arms as I worked. I got him into position but couldn't hold his head in place without it slewing sideways and her pelvis was too small to contain my hand and his head.... I finally got the lambing snare (which I have never had to use), snared his head and had to pull him head first as he didn't fit with the legs. We delivered the biggest buckling I've had on the farm(well over 5lb). He was dead, and although we pulled everything out of his lungs and worked hard, he didn't come back.
I was worried that Phoebe had a uterine tear and we were going to lose them all. Partway through the labor we gave her metacam for pain, and after getting her into a stall with heat lamps with her live baby, I started antibiotics for infection. We supplemented with calcium, warm mash with a liquid additive to top up all her reserves. We also used arnica on her v***a to bring down swelling.
Doe and kid are thriving(so no tear) and washing out the kidding towels, I found a piece of the tissue and took a picture because looking closely you can see the exterior veining which tells me it's part of the placenta. Looks like the placenta was ripped during the kidding which explained the bright oxygen rich blood. Not the outcome we wanted but in hindsight it could have been so much worse.
Well, Monday night we had a double header with both Two and Georgia having kids within an hour of each other. Georgia delivered quints and then Two had quads! We added 9 babies all at once(it was a little overwhelming but we got it done)! Both litters had good sized kids barring one little feisty girl for Georgia, and no one needed any special care.
Two. ๐๐bucks ๐ฉท๐ฉทdoes
Georgia ๐bucks ๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท does
Both does are doing great and we're supplementing with calcium and watching to make sure the kids are all thriving.
Triplets for WildMountain BE Beatrix Potter!
A great sized matched litter, two black girls and a buckskin buckling, all delivered mid-afternoon. Another normal no nonsense delivery! We're loving the length of all her kids and looking forward to grading kids a few weeks for now to pick our retained breeding stock for next year and the kids 4-H projects!
I know lots of people don't love black goats but I'm a sucker for an all black face, no frosting ๐
Big single buckling for WildMountain CCT Matilda! Quick, no surprises delivery and even at a decent hour(6:30am).
Two is going to hit her second due date (Feb 25th on a short cycle ), so Beatrix, you're next! I saw your ligaments this morning so don't think you're pulling the wool over my eyes you tricksy girl ๐.
Our 2024 kidding season started off with a bang with TRIPLET DOELINGS out of our yearling first freshener WildMountain CCT Jane Doe! She had overall a super smooth kidding, aside from the littlest doe kid needing a bit of extra help to boost her temperature.
These are our first kids out of Furthur DSC Jim Beam and we could not be more excited!
This! We do not keep goats to make money. They eat up time in every way possible! They stress us out when they're sick and we're scrambling to find out what's wrong. There's kidding complications, surprise bottle kids, and plans canceled due to a myriad of goat related issues from downed fences to bad weather and frozen water pails.
Most years we have a slight profit after feed/vet/medication/ upgrades/fees and the show circuit, but we choose to do it because we love it. Agrications are our summer flings and we're limited in when we can leave by kidding dates, bottle feeding and milking schedules. It's a lot but at this point its something we're still choosing for ourselves.

Well, with all the does but our token La Mancha confirmed bred, we've now updated the website with our breeding lineup and kidding dates for 2024, including our mystery buck! So, without further ado, I want to thank for selling us Further DSC Jim Beam! Thank you Leona!
https://wildmountainnigerians.weebly.com/ourherd.html
We cannot be more excited to be using this sweet boy who is proven to pass on so many great traits: udder capacity, teat size, and escutcheon shape! These are genetics we are excited to double down on in the herd! Jim successfully covered everyone in one go, so starting February 19th, we'll be filling the barn with some beautiful buck and doe kids! ๐ค

Wow, how is it already almost October? September seems to have gone by so fast!
As of September, all of our herd has tested negative once again for CAE and Johne's! The reason our junior does are not on the test results for Johne's, is that the minimum age for a PCR (Johne's f***l test) is 12 months old.
Our breeding season started has with a bang, having 5 of the 6 Nigerian does bred within the past 3 days! Now we wait till our does have passed the 21 day mark to make sure they caught. ๐
Happy fall everyone! ๐
*SOLD*
After a lot of consideration, we have one last doe kid available this year.
WildMountain CCT Royal Flush is out of WildMountain BE Beatrix Potter VG88 (EEE+) and sired by Curl Creek GT Ticketmaster.
Royal is a beautiful doe kid, and has consistently placed in the top three at every show she's been to! The only reason we are letting her go is to keep our herd numbers where we want them.
Royal's dam Beatrix is an exciting up and coming two year old milker. Beatrix has done well in the show ring, picking up two reserve champion placings this year and earning one leg toward her championship as a yearling! She is a pleasure to milk, having large teats, soft udder texture and huge orfices.
Beatrix's paternal half sister is none other than the beautiful GCH Cedar Green Twilight EX91, who not only is a finished champion, but took home the title of West National Champion in 2017!
Beatrix stamps her kids with her style and dairy appearance, and Royal is no exception.
Royal's sire Ticketmaster, is a yearling buck with a pedigree absolutely packed with incredible goats, which most notably include Castle Rock Black Oak EX93 +*S, Curl Creek Razzle Dazzle 2*M EX93 Select Doe, Curl Creek Marvelous 3*M EX91 Select Doe, CH Wood Bridge Farm 22k Gold EX91, and of course his gorgeous dam Curl Creek Razzmatazz 3*M. We cannot say enough about Razzmatazz, besides milking close to 5lbs on test, her mammary system, her wide open frame, and her beautiful dairy skin say everything else you need to know! ๐
Ticketmaster's littermate sister, Curl Creek GT Jazz It Up 4*M is following closely in her dams footsteps, with a knockout FF udder! She milked 5.13lbs on her one day milk test, easily earning her *M.
This doe kid has a very promising future, and we'd love to see her in a show herd!

Congratulations to all of the breeders and their stunning goats who participated in the CGS West Nationals this year!!
It was so awesome to see those large classes and all of the breeds being represented so beautifully. I wish we could have made it as well this year! ๐
We love our goats, we love to milk and show, but finding someone to take care of it all for holidays is tough. I also don't trust my goats to just anyone so this year, to fulfill the different family members needs, some of us have gone on a vacation and one of us is staying home on the farm.
Right now I am loving the silence and space to myself, but ask me in 2 weeks when they're back.
Picture is Dom's retained doeling from this year Wildmountain CCT Jane Doe, who is the sweetest, quietest kid and also my pick from this year! Can't wait to get her clipped up for Chilliwack ๐.

But... the most exciting placing was when Georgia went on to win BEST IN SHOW against some LOVELY does! We could not be more honoured. Georgia has really matured into herself this year, and was commended on her strength of dairy character, and the width/length of her rump!
We had a blast chatting with the other breeders, connecting over our shared obsession, meeting friends and making new ones!. Our small herd looked fabulous and we could not be happier with how they did! Thank you Lorraine Keeping for the judging!
Wow! What. A. Weekend.
Barriere Dairy Goat Show DAY ONE, classification.
First of all, a HUGE thank you to Eugenia Carnegie for classifying, Lorraine Keeping for judging, and Linda Carlson (Mythos Farm) for organizing and hosting the whole event!!
We had our four mature does classified on Saturday and it was such an amazing experience, we were so pleased with how they all did!

Potting Shed BM Eastern Wren VG89

5yo 4F, 106 days fresh.
WildMountain Magpies 2 For Joy VG89
Rump 87, Dairy Strength 91, Feet & Legs 88, Mammary System 89
3yo 3F, 109 days fresh. Unfortunately Two was extremely unhappy about the weather and was not looking her best.
WildMountain BE Beatrix Potter VG88
Rump 90, Dairy Strength 90, Feet & Legs 90, Mammary System 84
2yo 2F, 103 days fresh.
The weather was not in our favor with three thunderstorms and some parts of the barn actually flooding during the torrential downpours. People were damming the entrances of the barn to try and keep the water out! With the cold, wet weather unfortunately most of our does did not fill up properly or stand without hunching against the rain. We were still really happy with all of our scores despite this!
It was such an awesome experience and we will definitely be classifying our herd again next year.
Bears in the pasture are not a sight we like to see. We have no climb fencing with a hotwire on top but even so this one climbed in. Luckily we saw it and it spooked right back out again! Thankful for sharp eyes and a human fearful bear. ๐ค
Goats Milk Crรจme Brulรฉe ๐ค
We have been exploring different uses for goat's milk in the cooking and baking department, and this recipe suggestion from a friend was a winner!
Super simple and fantastically tasty, It definitely added a decadent feel to our afternoon tea! We might tweak it a bit with infusions but honestly it's fairly perfect! We'll be baking it in ramekins next time though, as the nice solid caramelization on top gets rather messy in the cutting process. ๐

Somebody got his spring clip over the weekend! ๐
Curl Creek GT Ticketmaster sure is maturing nicely! With the temperatures in the mid 20ยฐs to low 30ยฐs for the foreseeable future, this guy needed to lose that long buck coat.
Ticketmaster has lovely sharp shoulders and nice spring of rib for a 15mo yearling. We can't wait to see how this guy will look in a couple more years!
**SOLD**
This is our last available buck kid of this year.
He is out of WildMountain BE Beatrix Potter and sired by Curl Creek GT Ticketmaster.
His dam Beatrix has consistently produced absolutely stunning kids, and this guy is no exception! He's long, level and wide with excellent feet and legs. We are retaining his full sister.
Beatrix herself is a very correct doe who was a showstopper in the ring as a junior doe and a yearling first freshener, earning one leg towards her permanent championship as a FF! She has good sized teats paired with a well attached, high udder and is a pleasure to milk with lovely soft texture and large orfices. Beatrix's sire is Linwood CL Blue Eclipse, who most notably sired GCH Cedar Green Twilight EX91 and Cedar Green Little Raven.
His sire, Ticketmaster, is a very promising young buck. Ticketmaster's dam Curl Creek Razzmatazz 3*M is an admirable doe, with a lovely mammary system and very correct general appearance. As a second freshener, she produced 4.74lbs on test, easily earning her milk star!
Ticketmaster is sired by Lil Miss B Haven Golden Ticket, who also boasts an incredible pedigree. Golden Ticket's dam, Lil Miss B Haven Francine 4*M is another gorgeous, productive doe! Francine produced 6.1lbs on milk test, and has a beautifully correct body and udder.
CAE and Johnes negative herd, CL abscess free.
Disbudded and vaccinated.

Rainy days are the best days for snuggles and cuddle puddles in the barn. ๐
We snuck a barn cleanout in just before the rain hit, and the herd was very happy to come back to the when we wrapped it up. They love the pasture but the barn is home safe home. ๐ค
We thought we'd do a little bit of a spotlight on one of our foundation does here, Potting Shed Georgia O'Keefe.
While Georgia often gets overlooked in our herd, she is one of our favorite does. She has a very powerful deep body, and is a long, level doe with very strong pasterns and feet. She has a super strong medial, large orfices and her kids are extremely fast growing!
Georgia consistently produces big, beautiful doe kids. She has produced a total of nine doelings and ZERO buck kids in her four freshenings! In her freshened daughters, we have seen improvement across the board, having more refined udder structure, better attachment, wider escutcheons, more correct teat placement/angulation, and the long, deep bodies that we love!
This is one of the first years we haven't retained a Georgia daughter, instead we're retaining two granddaughters of hers! Two of her three doelings from this year are still available.
We still have a couple of registered bucklings and doelings available! Pictures below and ready beginning of May. These three are the last goats we will have available this year.
If we had more space and more diversity in our lines, a few more of these kids would be staying here, buuuuuut unfortunately we don't, so these bucks and doelings are looking for new herds!

Derpy Phoebe, and pretty Phoebe. ๐คฃ
This doe kid is so funny!
WildMountain CCT Eastrn Phoebe is a maternal sister to Two and our retained doe kid from Wren this year. Wren has been stingy on girls giving us only 3 and gifting us with 9 boys.... Glad Pheobe made her appearence this kidding!
Stormwatcher Oh My Darling. 7yo 6F, almost 7 weeks fresh on a 12hr hold feeding triplets.
We're quite pleased with how this doe is looking as a sixth freshener! She has thin pliable skin and the softest udder texture!
Also, she still has a polled buckling and a blue-eyed doeling sired by Curl Creek GT Ticketmaster available. ๐
Who are we?
Weโre a small family farm breeding quality purebred Nigerian Dwarf goats for show and milk in Canadaโs West Coast rainforest. Our herd is small and select so we can give our goats the attention and love they crave and we raise our animals like family.
