I started Alley Cat last year expecting to mostly give away candles to family and friends and just as a hobby. Now I'm sitting here getting orders ready and printing shipping labels and upgrading to a better printer, and it feels crazy to think about where Alley Cat was last year compared to now! It's been better than I ever expected.. and we're just getting started. I just wanted to say thanks, and I seriously love all 227 of you. I can't wait to keep getting bigger and better. Last year we donated over $300 to different causes because of Care Candles. That is one of the coolest things I've ever been able to do, and I cant thank you enough for helping me do that. I fully stand by AC Candles. I test every single scent before I sell it, and I spent ✨months✨ testing waxes, jars, wicks, labels, everything I possibly could. I spent hours and hours in my hot kitchen in the middle of the summer with no AC, burning myself repeatedly with wax or the handle. It's all worth it when I get the email that I got another order. It just makes me feel so proud, and honored to be welcomed into your home like that. I really do a little order wiggle. There are probably at LEAST 20 half burnt candles around my house from testing different things or scents. I make every single graphic/logo/label myself, with the exception of the doodle down below and the other cat doodles. When I started Alley Cat, I made a promise to myself, and my customers, to be completely transparent. With that being said, I've never been one to shy away from talking openly about my mental health struggles. Covid has effected a lot of Americans and their mental health and I am no different. I battle with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. A study by the CDC (linked below) shows that "40.9% of respondents reported at least one adverse mental or behavioral health condition, including symptoms of anxiety disorder or depressive disorder (30.9%), symptoms of a trauma- and stressor-related disorder (TSRD) related to the pandemic† (26.3%), and having started or increased substance use to cope with stress or emotions related to COVID-19 (13.3%)"

Recently over the last several months, I was losing the battle. Life was dark, and scary, and extremely lonely even though I have the best possible support system. I struggled to keep up with Alley Cat and I deeply apologize to all of you who supported me. Check your emails soon, there will be a surprise for you.

With all of that being said, I am so blessed to say that I'm currently winning my battle. I have the best friends and family in the world who stuck by my side and made sure I got help. That isnt a reality for a lot of people. Mental health still has a stigma and the stigma needs to end before we can reform the system, which is why im so open about my struggles. I am going to have another post with THREE new charity candles. I am very excited to share them with you!!
