Meet our first artist!!

Brian Fisher, a long time islander creates layered compositions of shape and describing line; colorful juxtapositions of form and abstraction that appear simultaneously lyrical and graphically formal.  His mediums include print, painting and sculpture.

He is represented by Roby King Galleries of Winslow, Bainbridge Island and Vashon Center for the Arts’ “Notable Collection” on Vashon Island. Fisher is a member of Seattle Print Arts, Vashon's Quartermaster Press, and is current president of VIVA, Vashon Island Visual Artists. He also teaches printmaking from his studio on Vashon Island.

This collection “Vashon Canopy” includes 6 cards and was inspired by the various leaves and trees that can be found in the Canopy that covers Vashon island.

Our newest addition: "Walks, Trails, and Parks on Vashon Island" For 50 years, Ann Spiers has enjoyed hiking Vashon and its adjacent Maury Island. To enrich the text, she brings much community involvement in the definition and conservation of the islands’ public lands. She was Audubon president, both staff and board member for Vashon Land Trust, compiled acquisition baselines for the land trust’s and Vashon Parks’ wild lands and beaches. Northwest history and natural sciences are her passion. See annspiers.com for more info and other publications.
Ann thanks co-authors John Gerstle and Susan Sullivan for entrusting the editing to her care.

This best-selling, complete local guide, Walks, Trails, and Parks on Vashon Island, is in its 6th Edition and celebrates its 20th Anniversary. The 139 pages of text are a good read as well as a helpful gift. The sturdy guide is ready for a daypack with its spiral binding, quality paper, fold-out Vashon map, exact street/parking directions, and beach and trail access points. .

More new art available on Handmade On Vashon - How lucky are we!!!

These mirrors and art pieces were created by island mosaic artist Lisa Betz
Lisa began her love of mosaics sometime in 1999, while still at home with three young boys, (homeschooling two of them) taking care of a house, a husband, and 5 acres on Vashon Island and "WAS BITTEN HARD BY THE MOSAIC BUG!" From then on it became her goal to develop her mosaic talent in hopes that one day it would become a full time job.

We think she was a success ❤️👏🏼😊

I had the pleasure of meeting our latest island artist, Stevee Duber while doing a show over the summer at the Vashon Center for the Arts. I love their technique and am excited to add them to our collection!! Stevee said "With each blank sheet of paper, a journey begins. Watercolor, ink, pencil, body, and mind compose, relate, respond, search, struggle, relent, discover, lose, win, change, love, despair, release, merge, separate... There is no formula or rule. Everything and nothing is sacred. Paint is applied and rubbed out. Drawing is applied and erased. Until, from the cacophony a fragile equilibrium arrives … vanishes … re-emerges and transpires. Suspending understanding invokes discovery. The painting creates the artist as much as the artist creates the painting. I hope the process continues in the viewing with the viewer." Yay!! New Photography is available from Michael Elnko of "Digital To Go"

"My goals for Digital To Go are many:
To provide you with compelling images worthy of purchase, to serve fellow photographers by offering business strategy, best practices, technical assessment, and art consulting services via Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts and other teleconferencing tools, to publish stories and essays about photography and life based on my decades of experience as a photographer, project manager, communicator, and parent and husband. I also welcome contributions from others who desire to share their own insights."

All of Michael's photographs are printed on ultra-high quality archival fine art paper that provides depth and dimensionality to the image and these are specially framed to add to that effect.

You can see them in person during the Vashon Studio Tours - The first two weekends in May & December.

Hoorah! New mixed media pieces from islander Pamela Wickard. She sometimes refers to her art as ”acrylic collage” which she began exploring about 20 years ago. She is self-taught in the technique where she combines mixed papers and acrylic paint surface treatments that are inspired by the beautiful place were she lives.

She loves texture and color and has always had a fascination with maps and pretty paper.

Her new works will be shown during the Vashon Spring Studio Tours (May 6-7 & 13-14 10am-5pm) along with another 15+ artists. We are Studio #1 on the map - stop on by!

Our newest artist, Brooke Gassiot lives and works on Vashon Island near Seattle, WA. She studied art at The University of Texas at Austin and in Tuscany, Italy. Through her work, she seeks out the immediacy of the passing moment in nature. She draws inspiration from the lush forests, enormous flowers in her garden and the seascapes of the Puget Sound. Her work ranges from gouache on paper and surface design to sculptural video installations and murals.

Over the last 15 years, she has shown her work at Lawndale Art Center in Houston, The Contemporary Austin, Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio and her commissioned work hangs in many commercial and private collections. She helped found two thriving non-profit art organizations: the Texas Sculpture Group and ICOSA Gallery. We are so excited to have Brooke join Handmade On Vashon!
