I have been telling people most of my life that music is my religion. I know Hendrix said it but I don't know if I picked it up from him or came to that conclusion on my own! Whatever the case is, it is the truth!! This song is a reflection on what music is for the entire human race in my opinion ;~)) I think it is literally the pulse of humanity!!!

This is the second song in my "Studio Live" series I have decided to start releasing (first song was also about music titled "All I Need"). It is live recordings of me in the studio playing guitar, cajon and singing simultaneously for single take recordings. I then do some post production effects, EQ and mixing/mastering! The reason I have decided to go down what some may describe as a "Demo" production route, is in part because of the option paralysis I get when I want to fully produce a song. There is always something more/different that can be done. I tried to finish a song starting in June and come September I still was not happy. Considering the number of songs I write (I did about 20 in September this year but only a few in October), I would rather spend my time creating more material rather than take the time to fully produce each piece! Some may think I am being lazy, I think I am being realistic at this point about what I want to spend most of my time on (which is creating and playing music, not dialing it in to the latest craze FX and high production levels). It also bodes well for live performance as that is basically what these recordings are, live performances but in studio rather than on stage.

Just released a new song into the wild ("All I Need"). I have decided that I am going to release songs I call "Studio Live" songs in a series. These will all be things that I record live, no overdubs, punch ins, extra instruments after the fact (some might call these "Demos"). Just me performing songs live more or less and recording them.

Playing cajon with foot pedal micd with SM7B (and boosted in post), PRS McCarty 594 HBII guitar through Axe FXIII MkII Turbo (3 scenes of one preset used). Vocals are through Rode NTR feeding Avalon 737vt SP, then into Axe FX for processing along with guitar. Steinberg Cubase 12 Pro is the DAW on Win 10 Pro system.

This song is the first track in "Volume 1: Music" of the "Studio Live" series. There will be multiple volumes and each will have a theme. Some volumes will still be open and incomplete when other volumes begin/end.

This release is dedicated to Al DiMeola as well as a very old friend of mine SKZ!

As I was playing a set August 10, 2023, the phrase "Horror In Lahaina" came to me. For those of you who do not know what Lahaina is, it is the town on the island of Maui that was destroyed by fire in the wee hours of Aug 9, 2023. When that phrase came to me, I stopped what I was playing and wrote this song. I then recorded it and here it is. I hope it helps some with the healing from this devastating event. Link, art and lyrics below! All positive vibes to the people of Hawaii and the dozens who have lost their lives and thousands who have lost many other things!!!

Meet Clan Du Chapeaux, the "Say What?" people! This tribe has survived for centuries via the utilization of two hats being worn in conjunction. The upper hat is for protection, the hat below for fashion! Some of the yung uns have not yet grown their protective layer hat, and there are a couple of friends who show up here as well who are wearing no hats whatsoever, but are accepted and nourished within the clan regardless of their un-adorned skull.

As most of you already know, Gordon Lightfoot, a great singer/songwriter passed away on May 1, 2023. Bob Dylan said Lightfoot died “without ever having made a bad song”, and every time he listened to one of them, he “wished it would last forever”. High praise from the man who many consider to be the greatest songwriter of modern times.

As I was reading the history on his famous Edmund Fitzgerald piece, I found that Gordo apparently wanted the incident to be remembered because he thought society would forget it too quickly. After reading through the lyrics several times, I felt I was not getting the closure I wanted in the song, and that it is more than just the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald that needs to be remembered and recognized, so I wrote a closing verse for the song. Some (including Dylan) may call it blasphemy, and I am fine with that. I think this closing verse gives a nice shout out to all hard workers who put their lives on the line each day to make our lives easier and better, and they all need to be remembered and recognized. Here are the full lyrics to the song (copyright to Gordon Lightfoot and/or whoever owns his catalogue) with my verse at the end. Enjoy!
