On Saturday, 11 of the alumni kids returned to Kware Care Centre (near Nairobi) to have lunch with Tim and Sheena :)
Action shots of the deputy head teaching at Mier Pamoja school! This is what a typical classroom there looks like.
Sheena is very passionate about getting the kids to read. Pamoja bought some books for the school library using alternative gifts money. So she was pleased to see kids using the library during break time!
This is class of kids aged 3 and 4 at Mier Pamoja School. They are learning the alphabet !
The classroom floors and verandahs need some attention! We have repaired so many times with cement.... but it is toooo dusty. It is time to tile the floors and verandahs.
Friday is SWEETIE FRIDAY! All the kids at school got a sweetie!
Dennis was living at the Kware Care Centre outside Nairobi, with Mildred. His mum is a drunkard and grandma sells illicit brew. All 4 kids were neglected. They grew up in a slum area of Nairobi. Dennis used to steal food to feed his sisters. Freddie, Dennis, Emily and Merianne all came to live at the Care Centre.
Robinson, Dennis, Dennis and Riziki all started Form school (boarding) this week. Please pray that God will protect them as they have left the safe environments of the Care Centres.
Blythswood Care in Scotland gives £1000 per month to provide a cooked school lunch everyday. For some kids, it is the only food they will get all day.
Sheena met with pastor Paul yesterday. He ministers in NW Kenya in a drought area. Pamoja sends relief funds for the area every month. One lady came to church and she had not eaten for 3 days. She went home with food.
Last evening we gave the Kware kids their cards from their sponsors. The kids say THANKS. Evie gave out the cards and remembered everyone's name!!!!
Yesterday Hannah, Hassan and Rita made chapatis for dinner, served with beef stew - the last picture is Frank enjoying the meal!
back to the page to provide updates as Sheena is in Kenya again! She visits the Pamoja projects with Hannah and Evie, after 3 years away due to covid restrictions. They arrived safe in Nairobi and went to church!
good evening :) Just a update on the coronavirus relief help - in a more digestible form for those who do not receive the newsletters! Thank you for all your support and prayers.
This is so exciting!! We have finally managed to use the money you generously donated in February on Just Giving to buy sturdier mosquito nets for the school kids!! After a tough year with flooding and covid, it’s been hard to get hold of them so thank you for your patience :) they are being given out in small groups, first to the kids currently at school and for the care centre beds - the rest will be bought and given out in January when the rest of the students return to school. This is such an important item for them to have, as holes in their olds nets would frequently lead to students having to go home from school with malaria. As always, thank you not just for your donations but most importantly, your prayers. For more info about the work Pamoja does in Kenya, check out the website www.Pamoja charity.org
It’s nearly Christmas!!Shopping is a lot more limited and so, Pamoja are once again putting up an alternative Christmas gift list (swipe to see the list➡️).
Most of us here in the UK have everything we need while so many of our Pamoja friends in Kenya have had a really rough year due to Covid and to the floods. It would be great to bless some families with extra gifts like blankets, cook pots, clothes or food.
Please take a look at the list below and:
1. Select your gift
2. Email your list to [email protected]
3. Provide your address
4. Pay for the cards http://pamojacharity.org/donate
Once we have your order the cards will be sent to you for you to give to your friends and family.
If you have any queries then please contact me.
These make great birthday gifts as well as Christmas gifts!
Thank you for your ongoing support, you can see by the list how far a small donation can go!
Flooded Houses Rebuilt!
Back in March we sent you pictures of houses that were destroyed in floods in the Magina area. This is where we have a small care centre and also the MIER school that are run by our friends Rev. Eric and Millicent. Some of the teachers in the school rented rooms in the local community and their rooms were flooded, including the headteacher Bernard, who woke in the middle of the night with floodwaters swirling around his chest!
Thankfully only a few people in the area died in the floods but many local homes were destroyed.
We waited for the Kenyan Government to provide promised help, but no help came... So, we spent some of the relief money you very generously gave us earlier this year and rebuilt a number of houses for badly affected families in the locality and for a few teachers at the school. Here are a few pictures of rebuilt houses. You will see we decided to use iron sheets for the walls, partly as these will withstand future flooding better than mud walls, but also the special mud used to construct the walls is now in short supply and expensive!
We have been able to send funds to rebuild three homes for people in the local community and we built rooms on the school compound (which does not flood!) for three teachers that had been affected. We were also able to help repair some houses that were not so badly damaged.
Thank you so much for helping us to be able to reach out to the community in this way. Millicent and Eric have visited every building site to share the good news of Jesus with these families and made clear that the funds came from God through Pamoja!
As you know from previous newsletters, we are continuing to send money for food to over 200 families every month. These families would be really struggling without this help - so a VERY BIG thank you to all those who have contributed towards this relief work.
We are currently reviewing how much longer we can continue to support these families, so if any of you feel led to help further that would be great! The future looks very uncertain since the recovery in Kenya after Covid is very slow. Thank you all again for the ongoing support and prayer :)
• Alumni Day at Kware Care Centre • the kids had the chance to meet ex-Pamoja children who are now adults!
