In all seriousness - a lot of dogs don't like interacting with people that they don't know. Some dogs don't really enjoy physical touch at all, even from people that they love. And that's okay! The best way to interact with a dog is to let them take the lead. If they want to engage with you, great! But if they'd rather observe you from afar or avoid you completely, the kindest thing that you can do is respect that.

I've personally had a lot of reactive dogs in my care, both as personal dogs and fosters. It's always difficult, but having a reactive dog in an apartment takes the challenge to a whole new level. I simply cannot control when and where we will run into a trigger. The risk of someone coming around a corner in the hallway or walking towards us on the sidewalk is always present, and my dog and I are both on edge 100% of the time.

Is our new reactivity safety gear a magic solution that will guarantee that no one gets too close to your dog? Sadly, no. There will always be people who are simply not paying attention. But if wearing a shirt or sweatshirt with a bold warning on it decreases the number of run-ins that we have with a trigger by even a few people, it's worth it to me.

We have a few options available in yellow, which has long-since been the universal sign that a dog needs space. Available on a variety of shirts, including short and long sleeve, and sweatshirts, with two different phrases available.

So many dogs have gained independence and a new lease on life through the use of a wheelchair!

As dog wheelchairs have become more accessible in the past decade or so, it has been incredible to see so many dogs live their very best lives with the ability to do all of the things that a fully mobile dog can do (if you haven't seen videos of dogs in wheelchairs running on the beach, you are on the wrong side of the internet). This design celebrate all of the dogs - and humans - who are living happy, fulfilled lives with the use of a set of wheels.

Nico was rescued by Philly Bully Team as a young puppy, at which time he underwent extensive medical treatment for severe dehydration and sodium levels that were off the charts. His foster home went above and beyond to care for him, which included using giving him water through a feeding tube to ensure that he was staying hydrated. Nico was diagnosed with Hypodipsia-Hypernatremia, a congenital malformation that causes him to not feel thirst, leading to an imbalance in the sodium in his blood.

After a trial adoption in the fall of 2023 didn't work out, Nico's foster family knew that they could never let him go again, making him an official member of the family. Nico is living his best life with his forever siblings - human and canine - and takes fantastic care of his foster siblings, passing on the love and care that saved his life.

This is probably my favorite part about this month's new design drop: reactive dog safety gear! This collection features two sided print with warnings in big, bold text alerting others that your dog needs space.

When you love a reactive dog - a dog that barks, lunges, or panics over other dogs or people - going outside for a walk or potty break can be extremely stressful. We want to protect our dogs from the things that scare or frustrate them, and we also don't want to put others or ourselves in a dangerous situation. Many people simply do not understand how hard we work to keep everyone safe and can make situations more difficult by approaching or letting their dogs approach our reactive dogs.

In addition to training and management, gear that lets those around you know that your dog is reactive and needs some space can help make daily life a little easier.

Not all heroes wear capes 🥰

Approximately 3.2 million cats enter US shelters every year. More than half a million of them won't make it out alive.

Cats are often an afterthought in animal welfare, with dogs the focal point of most initiatives, from foster and adoption programs to laws preventing animal cruelty. Cats in homes are less likely to receive regular vet care than dogs in homes. Cats are more likely to get lost - but less likely to be reunited with their families. Colonies of community cats - both friendly strays and ferals - are common in nearly every urban area.

One of Detezi's 2024 goals is to raise awareness about cats in need, from improving quality of life in shelters to the importance of TNR. If you know of or are a part of an organization that helps cats and are interested in fundraising with your own branded merch, check out the link below!

I know better than to read the comments on any kind of viral post, article, or video about pit bulls... but guess what I did 😬

The willful ignorance about bully breeds never ceases to infuriate and sadden me. Sometimes, it feels like people WANT "pit bulls" - which, in many cases, simply means a medium-to-large mixed breed dog of unknown breed make-up - to be evil killing machines. People want a scapegoat, something to hate and villainize, even with factual evidence in front of them that shows that pit bulls are simply dogs, just like every other breed or mix. Am I just jaded?

Put a little positive energy into the world; leave a comment below with a photo or happy story about your pit bull ❤ Maybe we won't change any minds today, but we can always plant a seed of positivity and hope that it grows.

One of my biggest flaws as a business owner is my inability to focus on/promote one thing. I always have ten thousand ideas in my head and constantly jump between projects. One of my goals in 2024 is to get a little more organized.

Here's a 2023 favorite that definitely doesn't get the attention that it deserves - the rainbow pitties tee! One of my personal favorites to wear, and one of our best sellers... for the time period that I remembered to promote it 😉 I love the crop tee pictured, but it's available in full-length unisex and ladies' cut tees, too.

You can also peep my favorite tattoo of my beloved late soulmate, Ezi, by . I've loved a lot of dogs in my life, but she was certainly something special. Our time together was way too short, and in a few weeks, she'll have been gone for longer than we were together. And yet, the impact that she made on not only my life, but many others, is still going strong ❤️
