The Prince and Princess of Wales’ date night is with none other than Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. The Swedish royal couple were welcomed this morning at Windsor Castle by William and Kate, and will be their guests this evening at the annual Royal Variety Performance which this year features Cher amongst others. The Swedish couple’s official visit (29 Nov - 1 Dec) is to highlight the two country’s cooperation in the “areas of security and defence, the green transition, innovation and research, and increased exchanges within the business sector.”

It was a special day in Sweden yesterday (Tues 13 December) - Santa Lucia Day (St Lucia or St Lucy), celebrated as a festival of lights in the country, with schools, churches, hospitals and businesses all getting involved. Small children (and even adults) dressed up in white cotton outfits with red belts, and walked in wobbly parades, handing out yellow buns (saffransbullar) and holding candles or wearing crowns with lights on their heads. The boys wore cone-shaped hats and carried star-topped sceptres... 💙🇸🇪💛
