Very excited that it will be a double header with .basha
Zoé Basha is a Leitrim-based musician and composer, of French-American origins. Drawing from her background as a traditional singer influenced and inspired by the multiple cultures embedded in her sound, Zoé Basha blends traditional Appalachian, Occitan and Irish singing with Piedmont blues and jazz.
Should be a lovely night. All a bit last minute so tell yer mates please and thank you.

The Interplay of Light and Dark
"This is in many ways an exciting recording; it is brave (and somewhat unusual) for a traditional album in its engagement with current social criticism. As an artistic creation it has something in common with the type of ‘internal’ journey undertaken by fiddle-player Tommie Potts. In this sense it is an album that explores the inner world of these artists, their musical worlds, and the collaborative ties of their artistic relationship. Which leads to a final reflection on listening to this in a lockdown; although the title references the light (of the day), my perception of this is of an album designed for intimate, individual listening; its up-close recording, its subtle colours, might well be best served through a personal, involved, and focused communion. "

All Our Lonely Ghosts
All Our Lonely Ghosts is a dark song. It charts the treatment of women, children and those who have been silenced in Irish society over the decades. Where Catholic Ireland locked people in Church-run institutions in days gone by, modern day neoliberal Ireland puts them in family hubs, direct provision centres, or leaves them to roam the streets of our cities and towns.
In recent weeks, we have seen those in power redouble their efforts to bury a shameful past - a past that could rock the foundations of the current status quo if it is unearthed in its entirety.
While the song is bleak, we see hope - in the courage of the survivors who are campaigning for justice and in the movements that are fighting for a better world.

The human voice and the fiddle are often thought of as musical cousins. ‘Solas an Lae’ (The Light of the Day) is the début album from Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien, a compelling exploration of that relationship, creating a unique dialogue that blends raw, rugged earth with the ethereal otherworld. In ‘Solas an Lae’, bouncing songs and strings off one another, Eoghan and Ultan have created a duo album that emerges viscerally from the sean-nós roots of upbringing to blossom into two of the most articulate Irish musical voices on the scene today.
Dublin-based with Clare and Connemara connections, Eoghan and Ultan have been playing together for many years in bands including Skipper’s Alley. Their involvement with Manx singer Ruth Keggin and with the international Gaelic project ‘Aon Teanga (One Tongue)’ took them to Highland Scotland, where they first recorded at Watercolour Music in Lochaber. “It’s hard to imagine recording anywhere else,” says Eoghan. ‘Solas an Lae’ is produced by Watercolour Music’s Nick Turner who also worked with the Irish duo on ‘Aon Teanga’.
‘Solas an Lae’ takes its title from the opening track, ‘Mo Mhúirnín’, a starkly beautiful rendition of 19th century poet Padraic Colum’s poem ‘The Beggar’s Child’.
“Mavourneen, we'll go far away
From the net of the crooked town
Where they grudge us the light of the day.”
The first single from the album is ‘Cúirt Bhaile Nua’, a classic song of love and heartbreak from Mayo from the singing of Treasa Ní Mhiolláin. The track is accompanied by a night-time video, filmed outside at Watercolour Music’s studios, which is situated on the shores of Loch Linnhe within sight of Ben Nevis. Nick also produced the eerily elemental video which features the duo singing and playing in firelight, and an almost sacrificial scene of a harmonium up in flames. Instruments may have been harmed in the making of this film.
‘Cúirt Bhaile Nua’ (WCMCD074) is released on Watercolour Music on October 29th 2020.
‘Solas an Lae’ (WCMCD075) is released on Watercolour Music on November 5th 2020.
