A day before the weeklong transport strike, the Department of Education (DepEd) assured learners and their parents or guardians that the learning process would continue through alternative delivery modes.

ssuing an advisory to DepEd personnel, learners, and their parents or guardians on Sunday, March 5, said that mechanisms to ensure the continuity of learning are in place should students fail to attend face-to-face classes due to the transport strike.

“To give our schools flexibility, classes may be conducted in-person or through alternative delivery modes depending on the preference of the learners and their parents/guardians,” DepEd said.

DepEd added that all Regional Directors and Division Superintendents have been advised to “prepare for in-person classes and modular distance learning depending on the circumstances in each locality.”

Meanwhile, DepEd maintained that its efforts are focused on addressing the learning loss brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Topmost in mind is the national agenda, that should be supported by a whole-of-nation approach, to maximize the learning recovery of our learners,” DepEd said.

DepEd also expressed its appreciation for the efforts of local government units (LGUs) and other government offices in helping learners during this “learning disruptive transport strike.”

The department also maintained that it will not “kowtow to communists, their allies and supporters.”

In a separate statement issued by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte dated March 4, said that the transport strike from March 6 to 12 is “pointless” and would only “exacerbate the learning hardships” of students.

Duterte also called out the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) for supporting the transport strike.
