Stellenbosch Buurtzorg

Our HSFA mini bus, a mobile guardian for our elderly, has been instrumental in delivering meals and taking residents on town outings. However, its operational journey has reached its end, and it’s time for it to retire its wings and halo. The HSFA relies on the community’s support, urging financial contributions for a new transport minibus (click here to donate) or reaching out if you have connections in the car industry that could assist. "As we celebrate International Women’s Day I find myself thinking of all the things I enjoy about being an older woman. The years have given me experience and I feel more certain of myself. I’ve been through many decades professionally and personally, and it is a wonderful feeling to know things that are useful to others. I have also realised that there are many ways to do things, and that my way is not necessarily the only one, which makes me more tolerant of difference and the need to be right. I find it easier to speak my mind and to trust my own judgement, caring less what others think. At the same time, I am able to care more for others, because life is not as fraught and busy as when I was younger. There have been opportunities to broaden my horizons, to try new things and take risks. But most importantly, it is a relief to be gentler with myself, to tolerate my foibles and shortcomings and to make peace with this crazy, unpredictable, sensitive, creative and people loving person who has been with me for nearly 70 years .... older can indeed be golder!" - Lisl Foss, Eden Mentor and Clinical Psychologist.
