Josephine Johnson Music
Josephine Johnson is an artist unafraid to live her dreams.
Her brand of soulful Americana is tender yet cuts close to the bone--think, all-in heart of Janis and Stevie but smokey-smooth like Norah Jones and Natalie Merchant.

Wow! I pass by this home regularly and today noticed a crew of people working outside. Of course, I stopped. I have been wanting to know who is behind this fabulous purple Martin nesting habitat.
His name is Raymond. And he loves this species—so much so he has an app on his phone that let him know today some are already in route from Brazil back to the their North American summer homes.
Last year 52 breeding pairs stayed in his avian suites. He anticipates at least 10 more pairs this summer.
We exchanged info.
I told him I’d be back in March when the Purple martins arrive. And yes, I will share that story. 😊💜🌱😊💜🌱
Awww, always comes through! Tonight it’s a white chocolate espresso martini— #!!! Singing this evening at 6 to 9p 😊
Gig tonight was canceled because cold temps in Savannah—dang, if they only knew I played four hours yesterday in the mountains, 43 degrees!
Anywho, showed up tonight to support my dear friend and his band at Whiskey Bent in Aiken.
3 cheers for neurodivergence!—maybe you are, too, divergent in mind and ways of being in the world—happy New Years!
And maybe like me, when solo in public spaces, you bring a book to read or a coloring book (Dolly Parton!) to work on. 💜
It makes all the things so much easier.
Here’s to a sparkling 2024. 🎊
Happy New Year’s!

So, this happened today: I showed up at Park Ave Oyster Bar by 5:30 p.m. because finding parking the past few times in downtown Aiken has been tough. Lucky for me I snagged a spot easily and unloaded my equipment without any problem.
Upstairs, there was a party of four in the comfy lounge seating as I set up.
“You must be Josephine,” one of them said. “We’ve come to see you.”
Me?
“We’ve heard great things and are excited to hear you.”
I quickly told them thank you and that as a freelance writer in the other part of my life I frequently spend multiple days alone and writing, taking breaks only to walk and interact with my neighbors’ cats, random insects and the squirrels that plague my prized bird feeder. It is such a compliment, I said, to know you’re here to see me.
Seated nearby at the bar, two couples chimed in that they’d gotten babysitters so they could come out tonight and listen to the music.
One of the women even said her daughter follows me on Instagram.
I was really surprised and very happy and a little shy about how to answer and just offered a high five and said, smiling, “I’m glad you’re here!”
By 6:45 p.m.the upstairs restaurant was packed, and so I decided to just start early.
I then played until 9:00 p.m, took a small break and continued until 9:45 p.m.
That’s when the restaurant owner, Richard, came up to me and thanked me.
“You’ve no idea what you’ve done for us and business on Friday nights. People ask about you. Your talent matters and is important here.”
Of course, I was very surprised. And all I could do was say thanks and tell him I very much loved playing at the oyster bar.
Around 11:00 p.m. I made my way next door where Shawn & Marty Britain were playing and got invited to sing a song with them.
It was so fun!
And I’m so grateful and very much hope YOU have a series of back-to-back positive experiences to genuinely validate and support all the hard work and effort you’ve been putting into something you love deeply.
All love.
Sincerely,
Josephine, music & writing monk ❤️

9/8 TONIGHT 7:30 to 9:30p
12/8 Park Ave Oyster Bar
12/10 The Public Kitchen and Bar
Did you know in the past 20 years I’ve recorded 5 albums? A few you’d have to dig deep to find, but the two most recent are easily available on BandCamp.
I’m most proud of “The Spark” in which I worked with producer John Vanderslice at Tiny Telephone studios in San Francisco.
I worked with a team of great musicians to bring each song to life, a full- band production and truly wonderful experience.
“The Spark” was recorded analog on 1/4 inch tape.
You can buy digital copies, or if you have an old school CD player, you can purchase honest to goodness CDs from me as well.
A holiday gift idea!
Josephine Johnson Josephine Johnson’s brand of soulful, earthy, and transcendent folk feels tender, hitting close-to-the-skin, while also clearly dredged from somewhere deep. With a talent for crafting stirring, relatable songs, this Nashville, Tennessee-based artist sings for her supper in bars, clubs, restaurants...
Santa visited Dahlonega, Georgia, this afternoon. And get this—did you know he’s a wilderness and history guide on the Appalachian Trail in summer during the off season???
