Is the new Lomi by Pela the answer to the composting issue that eco-conscious apartment dwellers face?
For some reason, my sports watching has been taken hostage by Lomi commercials. I am usually immune to stupid commercials. But this one has me interested. First off, I am on cook. When I cook, everything goes into some pot of something that I can eat from for days. It’s a testament to my hatred of cooking for myself. So I don’t really have a great deal of scraps to worry about. But as an organizer, I am regularly in apartment homes of people who would definitely consider this product as a solution to their wanting to compost. So I decided to check it out.
Off the bat, the $499 price is off-putting. Not to mention the fact that you have to buy regularly buy the LomiPods(help to speed up the process) and charcoal refills (helps to manage the smell). But in the long run, is it worth it? The Lomi turns your food waste into plant food. Because it is portable, you can take it with you everywhere and it insulates you from outdoor predators and the pesky indoor pests like ants, fruit flies and maggots. It is a responsible way to dispose of your food waste.
However, as an apartment dweller who has a black thumb, what am I supposed to do with all of the “dirt”? When someone can answer that question for me, I might see it’s value. Decide for yourselves.
***Interesting fact: Thirty (30) million tons of surplus food (uneaten, food waste) is from individual households. (Re: ReFed)
