Getting colder in Virginia and I am looking for a fresh launch in the spring of 2023. I will be reaching out to a few brands, ambassadors, and influencers to spread the word.

How many of you guys want to get into kayak tournament fishing but don’t want to get a pedal drive? The folks at have released the Shoalie Kayak that was designed for the tournament fisherman. This thing has so many little details that were added to make your tournament go super smooth. While at camp this past week I saw a storage facility for their kayaks. It got me wondering how you all stored your kayaks when not in use. What’s your go to for storage?

This angler was getting his hobie ready for a fun evening of redfish and trout. This particular boat was an outback and he was having issues with the seat. After we chatted for a while I found out he was a Veteran ( thank you all for your service) and this boat spent most of its warranty days in a garage while he was on deployment. How your seat made it through your trip and you yanked some big ones.

No better date night than a fishing trip for two. These two were headed in after a successful outing on the water. They returned safely and also caught a few trout. If your significant other is a paddler, their a keeper.

What a great evening to be trolling for redfish. Caught this guy out in the inlet celebrating the 4th (a day early) trolling for some of the redfish we have running. Not sure of his success but wish him well.

Check out this veteran owned bait company. has some awesome baits that will catch almost anything in the water. I personally use them and highly recommended them.

Fun trip to West Virginia ended with a kayak fishing trip. Fishing is fun, but getting the kids on the water is the best. I would love to tell you I dominated this trip but that would be a lie.

When I go camping while kayaking I like to take my hammock to save space and sleep well. The hammock fits in almost any cubby or hole and weighs next to nothing. What’s your go to sleeping situation when adventure is calling?

What little friends have you found while fishing? This little fella was trying to hitch a ride. Unfortunately he didn’t have a PFD so I had to deny entry.

What a great morning for a paddle on the lake. I went down before hitting the studio to see who was on the water and met this gentleman. This was a great opportunity to inform him of the tournament scene as well as let him know about the kayaking community. KayakTourney is going to be a welcome location for all water sports even those that don’t fish, yet.

When shopping for a kayak what do you look for? Many people get drawn in to the look to only find out the kayak won’t fit them. I have always liked the Brooklyn kayak line for the simple fact almost every angler can use their kayak. This is the RA220, an 11.5 foot kayak with a 550lb weight rating. This is one of the best bangs for the buck in my opinion.

Here’s a morning view from a camp we were at after an event paddle. How many of you do kayak camping? Are there any recommendations for tents or other gear?

These are the moments that make kayaking special. Getting out on the water and stealthily making your way through the shallows. Seeing what the boaters need binoculars to see. What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen from your kayak?

As your rig grows the transportation to and from becomes more of an issue. Here is a kayak trailer that I saw in a parking lot before an outing. What types of kayak trailers do you all have? If you’ve designed your own, share your rig.

Danger lurks on the edge of the waterway and under those bass filled trees. Don’t forget that your trip on the water starts with a trip to the water. Ticks can be a formidable adversary packing many diseases that can be life altering. Be safe, use a hood repellent, and catch only fish.

How far is too far? When you go out in your kayak, is there a limit to your travel? Do you take advanced location devices like flares? On the east coast we have the opportunity to paddle as far as we feel comfortable and that can be problematic. What safety gear do you take with you?

Most modern kayaks come with an ample amount of track to mount accessories. Even with all of these tracks there always seems to be more needed. I like to go to my local paddle shop and see what they have to offer before ordering from big box retailers.

I know many of you kayak fishing friends have to transport your kayak to the lake. Not all of us have the luxury of a trailer, or live on the lake. What’s your preferred method of transporting? Are there any horror stories?

I’ve seen some anglers wearing flip flops or going barefoot. I wanted to add this picture to the mix so you keep in mind that there may be some sharp things lurking under the waterline. Stay safe and wear water shoes when entering and exiting.

Nothing any better than sitting in your kayak as the sun either rises or sets through the sky. Beautiful views and wonderful opportunities come from kayaking. Just remember to stop and enjoy the view, even if you’re in tournament mode.
