How to Accomplish More by Doing Less 12/01/2023

What if, rather than running from one thing to the next, you gave yourself 15 minutes four times a day?

Would you be more productive?

Feel guilty for “taking a break”?

Think “yeah, but that won’t fly where I work?”

Try doing 90 minutes of work and 15 minutes of renewal for a week and let me know what happens.

How to Accomplish More by Doing Less Two people of equal skill work in the same office. For the sake of comparison, let’s say both arrive at work at 9 am each day, and leave at 7 pm. Bill works essentially without stopping, juggling tasks at his desk and running between meetings all day long. He even eats lunch at his desk. [

Start, stop or continue? I prefer stick, switch and ditch. It has a better energy to it and right now, we need it!

Stick with what’s working and helping you achieve your goals.

Switch things up when you need to find a better way.

Ditch what is getting in the way.

I’ll share my list in the comments and would love to hear yours too

6 Strategies for Leading Through Uncertainty 24/11/2022

Change and uncertainty have been used interchangeably, especially when it comes to leadership. They obviously mean different things, but how conscious are we of the different skills we need to lead through both?

This article from the Harvard Business Review focuses on six strategies for leading through uncertainty.

https://zcu.io/dCsE

6 Strategies for Leading Through Uncertainty It seems that any given week provides ample reminders that leaders cannot control the degree of change, uncertainty, and complexity we face. The authors offer six strategies to improve a leader’s ability to learn, grow, and more effectively navigate the increasing complexity of our world. The firs...

Leading change is hard work, aside from the amount of effort involved, it's easy to feel out of your depth, overwhelmed, or over it.

Here are my top three tips to help you , even if you're ready to throw in the towel!

1) Focus on building trust - I'm a huge fan of Stephen M.R.Covey's book "The Speed of Trust", in it he talks about the four cores of trust - integrity, intent, capability and results - and their role in us getting where we want to go. If your world is feeling a bit off-kilter, ask yourself which one needs fixing and start with building trust in yourself.
2) Reconnect with why - Most change starts with great enthusiasm but drop-offs the longer it takes or the harder it gets. Among all the things that need to be done, it's easy to lose sight of why you're doing it. When this happens, go back to why. Remind yourself of the positives and how the world will be different when you're done.
3) (Re)-commit - Most of us approach change like our relationships. Some of us like the sound of it, but we're really only interested in casual dating. For others, it's a full-blown "til death do us part" kind of deal. Most change needs the latter, so if your interest starts to waver, consider re-committing.

The ceremony part is optional.

To Recover from Burnout, Regain Your Sense of Control 16/11/2022

Do you feel exhausted, ineffective, unaccomplished, or cynical? Like, no matter how hard you try, you'll never quite get on top of things or please your boss. Before you ask yourself, "am I in the right job?" ask yourself is anything you can do to make your current one right.

https://zcu.io/B9Zc

To Recover from Burnout, Regain Your Sense of Control When you’re burned out, you often feel like your circumstances are out of your control But this victim mindset only blocks you from doing anything about your situation. Instead, you need to believe that you have the ability to make choices to improve your present and future. You also need to belie...

With So Many People Quitting, Don’t Overlook Those Who Stay 10/11/2022

“In the frantic need to hire more people, the group we often forget to attend to are the folks who stay — those showing up day-in and day-out shouldering the work that needs to get done.

Think about what these people — the ones who are here, working for and with you — need now.

The short answer is they need to be seen for who they are and what they are contributing. It’s your job as the leader to make sure they’re getting the recognition they deserve.”

https://zcu.io/tXHq

With So Many People Quitting, Don’t Overlook Those Who Stay The marketplace for talent has shifted. You need to think of your employees like customers and put thoughtful attention into retaining them. This is the first step to slow attrition and regain your growth curve. And this does not happen when they feel ignored in the fever to hire new people or under...

Is Your Organization Surviving Change — or Thriving in It? 02/11/2022

Is Your Organization Surviving Change — or Thriving in It? The single biggest challenge we face as teams, organizations, and a society at large is to adapt fast enough to match the increasing uncertainty and complexity around us. And since all indications are that increasing volatility, complexity, and rapid change is the new normal, organizations will need...
