So many songs are inspired by the environment of Jiangnan! The thing is they are all great songs!
If anyone has any song requests, leave a comment below!! 😊
This song has such a smooth rhythm I feel like I have heard it before! But this is the first time I have played it!
Check out the "Introduction to the D**g Xiao Amazon to start learning!
Continuing the theme of popular songs. It is nice to having backing tracks to practice with. It is important to keep rhythm so all of that metronome practice is paying off!!!
So much well known D**g Xiao music is from TV shows! This is 飞雪玉花 a simple but really fun piece.
Get notation for this song a more buy getting your copy of "Introduction to the D**gxiao" available on Amazon!
I really want to get singing bowls and start a daily live stream. Would you tune in to that for some virtual meditation? 😁😁😄😄
My daughter and I being serious 😄😂
Buddha In The Hall 佛上殿
One of favorite pieces and so much fun to play. This version is modeled after Zhang Wei Liangs solo version. This piece is a journey and I am still looking for my own voice with it. But every step along the way is a treat!
What is your favorite Xiao piece?
Going through songs and trying to memorize a few more of my favorites. Today's homework is 秋霞 or Autumn Sunset. Really great piece.

A little Bai Su Zhen under Mt Qing Cheng (青城山下白素贞) while in Chengdu.
On a tour of Chengdu, and I am getting to see a lot more than I ever saw in previous trips. We took a boat ride on the river and I did an impromptu Xiao performance! After this he went and go to his own flute and we played a song together. Fun times!
Anyone know the name of this instrument?
It is a Yangqin 扬琴
Got a chance to perform some musical improvisation with instruments from all over the world! A fun session but we have more instruments, we just need more hands!

Selina had been learning Hulusi and I can match her with my dongxiao. It is amazing because she remembers music so quick. Most of the songs she memorizes I still have to look at notation to play!!
Since my dongxiao book has been finished, I have been planning my next music studies. I have wanted to learn how to make dongxiao for a long time and I am soon traveling to Hangzhou where I may finally find a place to learn!!
This is one of my favorite moments caught on camera. Selina and I were playing together. She was on guzheng and I was following her with my xiao. It was silly and mostly for a photo shoot. In this shot, I am just off camera playing nonsense while we recorded video and we looked at each other and just shared a laugh. It wasn't until later that I realized the moment was caught on camera.
In case you missed the announcement, I did a thing! "Introduction to the D**g Xiao" is on sale now on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN21JHJ9
Order yours today and start learning how to play the xiao! It also makes a great Christmas present! 😁
It is nice when you are the guy who carries the flute around everywhere. Eventually you get better and people actually like to hear it. 🤣😅
Recently I have been working a lot on a book to teach how to play the Chinese bamboo flute, the dongxiao. It has been fun and inspiring for my own practice, but it is also quite the endeavor playing, researching, notating, and writing all of the info out.
It is starting to take shape and I am really proud of what I have so far! I am very excited to share it once it is ready! Soon!
I really want to get a bigger Shakuhachi. A student came with this monster and it was actually really easy and smooth to play.
