A day of firsts

Tonight’s nourishing budha bowl - after a sociable weekend my body genuinely welcomes healthy food by Monday.

Used up a celeriac that’s been kicking around a while in my fridge, and a butternut squash for soup, both using my rosemary salt to enhance their flavour in cooking. Love it when simple food packs a punch flavour wise.

I don’t diet (I did in my 20s they never worked!), but do stick to a monday-Wednesday rule where I don’t eat refined sugars.

Thanks to for the cold but energising parkfit this morning too. Taking a bath tonight with a whole cup of the unscented Epsom soak, ideal for muscle relief after sport.

We get fruit and veg delivered weekly and I enjoy the challenge of what to cook using the random ingredients we are given.

I use my signature rosemary salt in most dishes, it is more of a cooking salt than a finishing salt although can double up as that too. It has an intense flavour which can enrich roast lamb, vegetable stews, and soups. You can pick up a jar @ dunsfoldshop

And thank you for the beautiful rosemary bush you no longer had use for, I’ve now re-planted it in a temporary hole until we decide how to design the garden but it will be a healthy harvest!

Spending a couple of hours this morning on designing a business branded postcard for the local shops to display, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while and is often asked by new retailers.

Life admin and working for helping them get funding for 2023 and invoice/tax returns for Savanna Salts has taken priority of late!

HUGE THANK YOU to every single one of you who bought Savanna Salts products over Christmas, it is so lovely to hear comments like “they fly off the shelves”. There was an elderly lady in Dunsfold Shop last week who popped some rosemary salt in her basket as I was talking to her in the queue, I was so touched!

Where’s the sun gone today!?

I did manage an exhilarating ‘rain run’ earlier, but need a bath tonight especially as I ran out of time to stretch down.

These bath shots contain the highest grade Epsom salt and Himalayan salt, replenishing the body’s magnesium levels easing muscle aches.

Infused with organic lavender and rose which can help ease anxiety, depression and improve sleep.

Loving the ☀️ through my windows as I do my labels, radio2 on in the background talking about walrus sighting in wales ..... I absolutely love the hand-crafting but not going to lie sticking labels on straight is a right bugbear! Every 3rd jar it all goes a bit wonky tonky 🤪 and i overthink it, drives me crazy, can any other hand-crafters relate!

Nearly forgot to spread awareness of world Down syndrome day today!

A couple of years ago I helped launch for these amazing young adults 18+ (and others with moderate to severe learning disabilities)

In the Lockdown, Tessa the Founder, and mum to Rosie in this picture, has ensured she still stays connected to up to 50 young adults (and growing) via interactive zoom workshops.

If anyone knows of a young adult with learning disabilities who would benefit from then definitely get in touch!

And on a final note, Tessa who is also an amazing creative director helped me design my logo and labels for in return for my help with Think18. We would sit in her office brainstorming with wine late into the evening (pre Covid) and switch between Think18 and salts stuff!

Discovered today our apple tree is 100 years old... it is my favourite thing about our new plot ❤️

After a productive day in the garden, I’m looking forward to a bath with Epsom salts.

Also known as magnesium Sulfate, Epsom salts comes from a spring in Epsom in Surrey.

It was first discovered by a farmer in the 17th Century who noticed his cattle wouldn’t drink the water but when it was evaporated the cattle’s wounds would heal quicker.

So I roped my poor parents into being my fabulous salt suppliers, every time they visit their holiday home in France they return with kilos!

Having to look into new wholesale suppliers should Brexit and Covid leave me stuck but fingers crossed we can continue to supply it to you.

I’m catching up on some website content this morning with some homemade banana bread and diy pink Himalayan salted butter.
(I don’t make the butter but simply crush some pink Himalayan salt with a pestle and mortar and roll your butter in it for a delicious soft salty taste, a great flavour balance with cake!)

PS super chuffed with our pea shoot jungle in the background, the kids planted the seeds 10 days ago and they are ready to eat whenever!)

Late lunch. DIY veggie pesto tagliatelli with Maldon sea salt crushed with pumpkin seed and chilli flakes...more of a seasoning than a salt flavour but gets my vote for the production line!

I blended our leftover cooked broccoli and peas from Sunday roast into a pesto with creme fraiche, lemon juice,olive oil and garlic. Sprinkled with Maldon salt flakes seasoning - Maldon makes such a great finishing salt.
