Felt like pizza today! Almond flour crust, pepperoni, bacon cheese, ham, sausage, jalapenos, and shredded cheese. Also had a keto chocolate cheese cake with 2 net carbs. Soo good!
Replacing my sensor and not having blood sugar readings isn't an issue on keto. Just coasting around in range.

Halloween candy temptations! I used Halloween as an excuse to make a lb of bacon, buy a Lilly's coconut chocolate bar and a giddy yo bar so I was "less tempted!". Last Halloween I was definitely getting into the skittles. Nice and stable blood sugars this Halloween. So grateful there are such delicious keto friendly alternatives! :D

Mmm these are so good! Pork rinds have really grown on me, specifically this brand. They allow for super stable blood sugars! Found this big jug at Costco for $10.
Snacking is a habit I'm trying to move away from. I use to be snacking constantly from the time I woke up until I went to bed. Now it's only in the evening if I'm watching a movie or show. Well, if I can't kick the habit at least I'll keep stable blood sugars while doing it.

Hiking in Ontario during the fall is insanely BEAUTIFUL!
I managed to catch my sugars right before going low with half of a glucose tab and I started snacking on some almonds!
Hiking in beautiful places is a huge passion/ hobby of mine! I used to really struggle controlling my sugars during cardio type stuff like hiking. I would start going low, panic and over eat carbs and end up going way to high. With the roller coaster blood sugars I'd feel like absolute garbage.
Once I started eating a ketogenic diet and my blood sugars became stable I was able to learn exactly how much a glucose tab (4g carbs) raised my blood sugar. Now I rarely over correct lows. Sometimes if I'm lucky I catch them before they happen.

Isolation tank! 900lbs of salt and the water temperature is matched to your body. Total isolation and relaxation! No sound, no sight, no sense of touch. I made sure my blood sugar was nice and stable and took my dexcom cgm completely off before getting in. (Wasn't sure if the salt would cause any issues)
Stress management is key for any success in life, including diabetes management. The mental health of diabetics can often get over looked as the focus remains on their physical condition. Make sure to find ways to unwind your mind!

Can't seem to get my blood sugar up this afternoon. I've eaten 5 glucose tabs but it keeps pulling down. I was drifting higher a few nights in a row and have required micro adjustments throughout the night.
I've already started writing everything down. Food, exercise, insulin types and amounts. My slow acting might need adjustments.
Bacon is the best comfort food!...
Probably not the best time to have a beer, but as long as I only have one I won't have to worry about the liver not being able to do it's job getting glucose in... And it's only 3 carbs!

OMG a Keto sub! So before I went keto I was obsessed with sandwiches. Seriously obsessed. I ate a sub 5 days a week for years. I loved sandwiches and bread and ate them almost daily... But obviously once I adopted a ketogenic lifestyle my sandwich/ sub consumption dropped off almost entirely. I can't believe I can eat at Mr.Sub again! What a treat! Easy to keep blood sugar nice and stable. There is a Keto substitute for most things but a lot of them require you to make it yourself. This was a nice change!
Unbun makes some delicious buns! Almond flour, egg, psyllium husk, cream of tartar, salt, coconut flour, flax. Soo good!
I've already eaten a glucose tab to address the low blood sugar. If this were regular bread there's no way i'd be having a low.

5km, 25 obstacles and relatively stable blood sugars!
This was my first “truly physical test” since becoming a fat burner and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had to run 5km, up and down hills, with 25 obstacles between me and the finish line. I decided to fast leading up to the event so there were less variables to control. That morning I had two coffees before the race with a tablespoon of MCT oil in each. I was fighting a low that persisted for the first mile or so of the race. Luckily I had glucose tabs, insulin and my CGM receiver in a water proof phone case I lugged through the course with me. I would run up to an obstacle, throw the case down on the ground, do the event, run back and grab it and continue on.
The rest of the race the only change in my blood sugar was a slight rise from 4.2mmol/l to 5.4mmol/l (76mg/dl to 100mg/dl) I started the race with a Simpatch over my transmitter hoping it would keep my transmitter attached. By the end of the race the simpatch had ripped off but the transmitter was still intact. The sensor was in rough shape but it held on.
Without Diabetes this would have been a huge challenge. With Diabetes I was obviously nervous about breaking some of my equipment, losing my transmitter, or having my sensor rip off and not know my blood sugar level. However the biggest worry, unstable blood sugars, was not a problem. What I found interesting was how good and energized I felt. I had been so use to feeling fatigued all the time that the thought of running a race like this with stable blood sugar would have seemed ludicrous 6 months ago. As a type 1 diabetic exercise always came with the risk of causing hypoglycemia. In the past, activity usually meant a crazy drop in blood sugar. It is much easier to manage exercise with a unit or two of rapid insulin.

This book was incredibly helpful in learning how to properly manage my Type 1 Diabetes!
This book discusses what the Ketogenic diet is and how it helps control blood sugar. It talks about what to eat and what not to. Tips for avoiding high carb favorites, cooking and dining out. How to manage blood sugar on the diet, the role of exercise and how stress affects blood sugar. It talks about alcohol consumption on the diet as well as ketone supplementation.
After two decades of blood sugars 4 or 5 times higher than they should be, my body couldn't handle anymore abuse. I needed an immediate health intervention and this book helped get me on the right track!
I talked about this book and many others on my website at TheDiabeticFatBurner.com
