Description:
Having both friends and relatives in California, we travel there frequently. We either end up in, San Diego, San Francisco or Los Angeles. On one particular trip, we were at a wedding in Marina del Rey. The day after the wedding, we started to drive north along the Pacific Coast Highway and ended up in a state park in Malibu. At the beach we found this rock formation. I decided to add a woman walking to the scene and paint it.

Description:
I recently found a photo of a dahlia I took years ago that was growing in my wife’s garden. The colors in a dahlia are usually remarkable and this was no exception so I decided to paint it. After starting the painting, one person’s name popped into my head and never left. She is a fan of my paintings and comments all the time, hence the painting’s name.

Description:
After passing my “Check Ride” and receiving my Private Pilot Certificate (or license to fly small, single engine planes)I was able to fly with passengers. On one particular day, as I was doing my pre-flight prep of the plane, my passenger, I think it was my son, took this picture of me checking my instruments. The pre-flight prep is a necessary procedure to
provide the pilot with the present ATIS (the broadcasted conditions at the airport), to make sure everything is working properly and to set the altimeter to the proper setting. I thought this would make for an interesting painting.

Description:
The dancers in this painting were photographed dancing in the street. I assume they were dancing, although you never know for sure, in summer street clothes. Their clothing provided a different emotion for the painting. I decided to paint the dancers and remove the street environment as it was distracting from the subject of the painting.

Years ago we took a trip to the west coast and ended up in Lake Tahoe. We stayed in the south part of the lake but traveled around it. During our journey around the lake, we stopped at the north side and walked down
to the water’s edge. It was windy and the water choppy. My son took a picture of the shoreline and I added the woman for the painting.

Painting Title: “Me at the Valley of Fire, Nevada”
Description:
A few years ago, we took a trip to Vegas and met up with our friends
Sally and Artie from San Francisco. After a few days of losing money we
decided to stop gambling for the afternoon and rent a car go site seeing. We drove north along the west side of Lake Meade and found a ghost town, a restaurant in the middle of the desert owned by a guy from Brooklyn, and a direction sign that said turn right to “The Valley of Fire”. We drove on a dirt road for about 10 miles where everything was the color of dirty tan. We were just about ready to turn around when we went over a small hill where everything turned bright orange and we found “The Valley of Fire”. We walked around for a while and then I found a crevice in a vertical orange wall. I had to go sit in it and have my picture taken.
The thought never occurred to me to look and see what might be living in hole, you know rattle snakes, gila monsters or scorpions. I climbed up and had my picture taken and decided to paint it.

Painting Title: “On a Cliff, Point Loma”
Description:
One of our favorite places in the world to visit is San Diego. Whenever we’re there we go to Point Loma and in particular the Tidal Pools. This is a section of the Pacific’s edge where the sea meets the cliffs of Point Loma. Because of the rock formations at the bottom of the cliffs, depressions are formed by the rocks which collect tidal pools of sea water at low tide. Along with the pools of sea water, sea creatures are also left in the pools, where they stay until the tide returns. This is an extremely interesting place to visit and it required me painting it.

Description:
I have a friend, Manny, who is a world traveler and photographer. On a cruise to South America with friends a few years ago, while touring Buenos Aires in Argentina, he happened upon a street art exhibition where he photographed some of the artwork. After returning home to New York, he showed me the photos. This was my first venture into painting tango dancers.
