Mom…I know there isn’t a way for you to read this but we’re writing it anyway…maybe it’s for you, maybe it’s for us, I don’t know. It seems like such a cruel twist of fate for someone who was so loving, kind and caring to have suffered so much. I wish we could have done more for you, we tried everything we could to make you comfortable, we stayed by your side around the clock and we held your hand and hoped your pain would somehow subside. I wish I could tell you one last time that everything will be okay…I wish you could tell us things will be okay and comfort us in ways only you could. You would be so proud of Janene, her compassion, strength and loving attention is something I will never forget. That is something we learned from you and it is comforting to know it’s being passed on to Satchel, Cassidy and Finn. The kids are so incredibly lucky to have had a Nana who cared and loved so deeply as you did. One of the greatest lessons you ever gave us was that no matter how bad things seem there is always someone who has it much worse. We take solace in the simple things that mean so much and the love and guidance you gave us. What we wouldn’t give for one more walk around the fields with you.

Late yesterday afternoon our mother finally lost her 2-year battle with cancer, she is resting peacefully and it’s comforting to know that she is no longer in pain.

Shed hunting had to wait until April thanks to a busy schedule of new properties to walk and over 18 inches of snow in March. Always fun to get out and look for sheds, beat our record from last year (6) and even found the smallest shed we have ever found. Last weekend I travelled to PA to complete the National Deer Association Level 2 Deer Steward Program. It was such an honor to have the opportunity to meet Dr. Craig Harper from the University of Tennessee and Kip Adams the Chief Conservation Officer for the National Deer Association. Having watched countless videos and listened to numerous podcasts to learn from them in person at Kip's family farm was an incredible experience. It was a great time catching up with the NY Team and others, I am so proud to be a part of such a great group of land specialists!

In the late 18th century farmers often used linseed oil and a mixture of other things including rust which was plentiful on farms as a sealant for barns. We walked another new farm today and got to explore this hayloft. The light, textures and curve of the rafters was unique. I genuinely love seeing old barns and when we walk a property we are careful to notice every detail.

We covered thousands of acres this year. From ponds and lakes, river bottoms and creeks, agriculture fields and deep forest tracts...we saw it all. We climbed mountains, hills and steep ravines, crossed streams, rivers, swamps and fields. Sometimes we got back to the truck a little tired and one of us was always muddy but we always had a smile. I consider myself incredibly lucky to get the opportunity to explore land and I enjoy taking pictures that present our clients properties in the best way possible.
