Once in a while, we get a research project that sets the STANDARD for rigour.

This is one such paper submitted by the students at .

They wanted to understand if the ecological health of their  study site (Mothi-Desaigaon) could be assessed using its butterfly population as an indicator species.

Through rigorous field visits and ecology awareness surveys, their research revealed a steady decline in the number of butterflies as compared to the previous data. The main reason for this was the pressure exerted on the local biota through activities like the conversion of pre-existing green cover to residential areas, the clearance of forests for wood and other resources, and the associated contamination of the habitat through the release of numerous pollutants.
