SIKIKOT-ROUND KAILASH LHASA KATHMANDU: (JUNE-JULY 2025)
The Kailash, Kailas or Gang Rinpoche means "precious snow jewel" in German and is located in the western part of the mountain ranges of the Transhimalaya in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China.
Its tip has an exceptionally symmetrical shape and resembles a crystal or pyramid that is covered with snow all year round. Its height is 6,638m. The four major rivers of South Asia originate on its slopes: the Indus to the north, the Brahmaputra to the east, the Satluj to the west and the Karnali to the south, an inflow of the Ganges. These rivers have a significant share in the water supply of the entire Indian subcontinent.
Due to its special shape and location, the Kailash is one of the most important spiritual places in Tibetan Buddhism , Hinduism , Jainism and Bon and is considered the most sacred mountain.

A circuit around the mountain (Tibetan Kora ) on a 53 km. long path that leads up to an altitude of 5700 m above the Drölma La is the most important pilgrimage for fans of these religions. The

Direction of the circumnavigation depends on the religious affiliation of the pilgrim (Buddhists, Hindus and Jainas in a clockwise direction, followers of the Bon in an anti-clockwise direction). After the 13th circumnavigation of the Kailash, the pilgrim gets access to the inner Kora. The primary goal of every Buddhist is to circle the Kailash 108 times. According to Buddhist teaching, whoever achieves this can attain immediate enlightenment.
Out of respect for its religious importance, the Kailash has so far not been climbed. "No place is more wonderful than this," said the yogi Milarepa (1052-1135), who, according to tradition, is the only previous climber on the mountain, at whose foot he lived for a long time in complete isolation. The first permit for climbing was granted in 1985 to Reinhold Messner, who had applied for a permit for the surrounding area. However, this waived the implementation.

After a day in Kathmandu, where we acclimatize and visit some sights, we fly to Nepalgunj and from there to Simikot, the starting point of our trekking tour.
In 6 daily stages we hike through the northwest of Nepal and reach the Tibetan border. In these 6 days we move between 2,300m and 4,300m. We sleep in lodges.
When we arrive at the Tibetan border, jeeps take us to the shores of the magical Lake Manasarov. Here we pitch our tents. Everyone sleeps in the tent, the night at Lake Manasarowar is an impressive experience. The next day, the jeeps take you to Darchen, where the Kailash circuit starts. 3 days full of new impressions. We hike around the sacred mountain of Buddhists, Hindus and Bon. We meet many pilgrims on our way. On the 3rd day of our hike we reach Darchen, our starting point and the destination of our hike.
During the trek we are accompanied by local guides, porters and cooks.

We are now on the way to Lhasa across the vast landscape of the Tibetan highlands. Saga, Lhatse, Shigatse (Tashilumpo) and Gyantse (Kumbum) are our daily stages.
In Lhasa we take 3 days to visit the Potala, the Jokhang and the monasteries Sera and Drepung, but also to experience the breath of old Tibet in the old town.
After 3 days we fly back to Kathmandu. Here we use another day to get to know the city better.
